Hello, darlings!
I’ve been tagged by the lovely Fantabulistique for the “Happy Tag”. The rules are simple: mention the person who nominated you, list 6 unimportant things that make you happy, tag 5 blogs, state the rules, and notify the tagged with a teeny comment on their blog! 🙂
Little things, insignificant, usually, always make me happy! So here goes:
-
Snow days. I love snow: flurrying or blizzards, I love it all! It’s always so beautiful and always seems to make everything light-hearted and happy. I especially love it when I wake up early in the morning and see a blanket of white outside the window; it’s a bit like a fairytale and a snow globe, perfect, serene, and just a bit cold so that it’s perfect for hot chocolate and a fire in the fireplace! On these days curl up on my bed, chocolat chaud in hand, with a great book and Michael Buble playing on my speakers.
- Getting comments on this blog! 🙂
- Reading a new book!
- Organizing/redecorating my room. I have no idea why, but I just find entertainment in such tasks others see as menial. Perhaps it’s because I used to want to be an interior designer?
- Finding the absolute perfect gift for a friend or family member for Christmas or his/her birthday!!
- Just being with friends, even it’s just talking about nonsensical things.
& I tag whoever wants to fill out this little questionnaire! 🙂
And now, a rather late post on Balmain Spring 2009 RTW Collection. Simply fabulous. (And those shoes!!). My infatuation of them has actually grown into an obsession with the SS runway show: studs, Swarovski crystals, ripped mesh, bondage, and bright colors – I love it all.
Before I begin my rave (for lack of a better term) of obsession for the clothing, I’ll start with the makeup. I’m completely in love – it is one of the few shows that featured wearable, runway-to-realway look. The eyes were incredible, lined with brown eyeliner & erased with a q-tip to give a slight hint at a smoldering yet natural look. The lipstick was the same color as the lip, only with a matte texture. And the hair? Natural – simply washed and dried – completely fresh and easy to do!
Now the actual collection. The color palette was fantastic, with bold teals, magenta, and black. A bit of masculinity in the shoulders, yet feminine in the body-hugging bondage silhouette. The inspiration? I see a bit of vintage Michael Jackson of the 80s & 90s in some of the jackets: a bit military circa Civil War attire, yet modern with a curved shoulder and crystal embellished detailing. The denim was just as wonderful – acid washed and destroyed, it juxtaposed the richer fabrics and luxurious crystal detailing of the tops/dresses. I suppose it would be a bit difficult for the average person such as myself to pull off, but if you are blessed with long, thin legs, DIY-ing a pair or too with the help of bleach and skinny jeans could work!
I’m completely in love with the dress in the middle: the LBD, Balmain-ified. The basic shape is, of course, the strapless LBD with the sweetheart neckline: innocent, naive, and feminine. Yet Christopher Decarnin, the genius behind the collection, adds workings of crystal chainwork and black mesh (ripped, of course). I am lusting after the other dresses as well; the bondage, for once not like that of Herve Leger, could potentially be more flattering on those who are not amongst the 5’10” crowd. Every cut, shape, fabric, and shimmering embellishment is just glamorous.
Oh and those shoes! Studded, crystallized, strappy, and unbelievably high, those are some killer heels. Both literally & figuratively (though the Louboutin heels at Rodarte are actually scary and could be confiscated at airports as potential weapons).
I guess it’s time to DIY.
xoxo,
La C.

Shoes as weapons, oh, I love that (perhaps I’ll have to make a song about it)! Heels like this demand a rather different sort of respect. “Obey me – or suffer my wrath.” *evil laughter*

Balmain needs a store in the city, or more stores need to feature it because I desperately want to shoot the clothes. I’m glad that the brand is getting more press, but I hate hate hate the prices.
