And Such Like That • Soft Sensibilities
I was lucky enough to attend And Such‘s press preview earlier this week, and while it’s cooler to appear indifferent, it’s impossible not to be excited when anyone finds me relevant enough to share their hard work—and even more so when that final presentation is done exceptionally well. Working brand-side and press-adjacent has given me perspective of both sides, and what a pleasure it was to discover a network of female-founded and independent brands through their eyes. The roster is tight and well-edited: proof that their perspective is clear and their intention, grounded. Maketh Thou, founded just last year, specializes in leather apparel. This collection highlights the exploration (and perfection) of a hand-printed denim effect reminiscent of Matthieu Blazy’s trompe l’oeil denim for Bottega Veneta, and it is truly something in person. There are a few variations in “wash:” light denim, Carolina blue, and an anthracite-black, all of which suit their respective styles. I have no doubt that Montserrat Messeguer‘s cowboy boots were the star of the show, but I’m completely enamored by the softness of the cropped Charro sweat set and these thin leather belts that offer the simplicity of Khaite with desert charm.
