This past year I’ve gravitated towards red in the most curious way, as if all things in that family held a magnetic pull I could neither avoid nor resist. Call it color theory, projection, or something written in the stars—but since the moon’s shifted and the season itching to change, the inclination has turned into an obsession. Seeing red has actualized itself in subconsciously surrounding myself in its varying hues. My shelf of red books has become a centerpiece, and somehow (purely coincidental, or a force of nature) my coffee table has become a catch-all for red things. (Cleo Wade’s Heart Talk; a playbill from Metrograph); a favorite pair of Lara Bohinc earrings, still in their box; a $1.99 (!) copy of L’Officiel featuring Lana de Rey; and one of my more recent acquisitions, a little Chanel eyeshadow.) Wearing red on my body isn’t enough, it seems—because I’ve now adorned my eyes with it, too. For the fearless, red is passé; a trend from at least three seasons past. But for the fearful, be open. Red can be so, so beautiful on the eyes. The gold, de-bossed double-Cs help, but it’s the shade and finish of this shadow that make it so beautiful.…
