A few questions to consider—beyond “deal or no deal”—before you start perusing Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.

- If the item wasn’t marked down, would you still buy it?
- Would you be willing to purchase it again, at full-price, if it was lost or damaged? Could you afford to?
- Do you want it, or is the high of something new you’re chasing? (When was the last time you reached for your latest purchase from the same category?)
- Do you already own something similar?
- Does this align with, or build upon, your personal philosophy—which includes style and values?
- Do you want this because you love it (article of clothing, jewelry, perfume, makeup, bag) on you—or because you loved it on someone else?
- Does this item represent you now, or someone you aspire to be? (Then: Is that aspirational self the best version of you, or a piece to help you masquerade as someone you might’ve seen on your feed? Being inspired by an image or video versus being moved by a person you admire are two different things.)
- Does it go with anything else you own? Remember, what you buy needs to live in the context of your world. As in: on your skin, in your body, with you, in your real, everyday life.
