Hey! So I’ve told you a billion times you’re blog is Ah- Mazing. 😉 So I figured you could help me. I’m really into the styles of like Demi Lovato and The Veronicas. What are some essential items do you think I could/should have to get that sort of style? And possibly any cheaper outfits? hahah I’ve been on “Dress Like Demi” sites and they have some of her exact articles of clothing but I simply don’t have the cash!
xoxo Kristi
The tween to teen demographic has been quite fanatical over Demi Lovato as of late; do keep in mind, however, that this post is not a discussion of whether or not you like her/ think she is talented, rather, a look for less post in emulating her style. One of my good friends, Kristi, has long been a fan of Demi and The Veronicas – thus there is, of course, no surprise that she is one of many who love the musicians’ styles.
the inspiration.
Demi Lovato: A girlish interpretation of the rock ‘n roll chick. Always edgy, regardless of the designer dress worn on the red carpet.
{ image source: t h e f a s h i o n s p o t }
The Veronicas: I must admit that I have never been a fan of their personal style; the ensembles that have been captured in candid, paparazzi shots seem to be too trendy or simply too complicated in terms of mixing an overwhelming number of patterns together in one outfit. However, I did love the styling in their music video for Untouched; pale pink lips, lots of black, sequins, bold accessories, Chanel punkified.

key pieces for that look for less.
…Also known as the investment pieces, the ones you should spend just a bit more on to recreate both Demi and The Veronica’s personal styles. The easiest way to imitate is to take note of the celebrity’s signature looks. Both The Veronicas and Demi Lovato have been seen sporting the edgy, pink lip (Strawberry Milk lipstick, $2) with black liner, finished with that disheveled, straight hair (with a few kinks) for a bit of that punk-rock look. That, mon cherie, would be your starting point.
Look for vintage tees on ebay or thrift shops for starters; the rest can be found at Forever 21 (a girl’s best friend, really), Go Jane, ASOS, H&M, Zara, etc. Such stores carry both the season’s latest trends and designer looks for less – god-sent gifts to our wallets, especially in such financial times.
- Heavy black liner, winged or smudged
- Soft pink, pigmented lipstick: NYX Round Lipstick in Strawberry Milk (Cherry Culture; $2.00) // Saint Germain by MAC (Nordstroms, $14.00)
- Black leather motorcycle jacket: Faux leather jacket (Forever 21, $39.80) // Leather Corset Jacket (Victoria’s Secret, $138.00)
- Black tuxedo vest
- Graphic tees, vintage rock band shirts: Never Look Back Cut-off Tee (Forever 21, $16.90) // Rolling Stones Vintage Tee (Forever 21, $18.90)
- Floral print dresses: Romantic Flower Dress (Forever 21; $24.80)
- Black boots: Studded Ankle Booties (Urbanog, $26.99), Sandals
- Long, fringed scarves: Jersey Scarf (Forever 21, $4.80)
- Fedora: straw fedora with a black band (Urban Outfitters, $28.00); black fedora/gray fedora with black band: Juicy Couture Felted Fedora, (Nordstrom, $65.00)
- Colored Wayfarer sunnies: teal F21 brand sunnies (Forever 21, $5.80)
- Studded black bag: Pyramid Stud Tote (Forever 21, $34.80)
- Chunky accessories (Forever 21)
I do hope this helps, darling! Do keep in mind that you should incorporate, by way of interweaving key elements, into your own, personal wardrobe. Celebrity styles are simply meant to stand as guides and inspiration; take a bit from here and there and wear it your way.
Never forget your individuality.
bisous,
La C.
P.S.: These petite star bullets make me quite happy.

it would definitely be fun to dress along their styles one day, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be bold enough to pull it off! I definitely gravitate more towards the feminine looks than the punk. Then again, Be&D has changed me!

Your collage is actually better than Demi’s style! Love the floral dress, biker boots and leather jacket combo!

I’m so glad you covered this! I was thinking about asking a question similar, and tah-dah! Wonderful. 🙂
S.Elisabeth says
Too cute! (the star bullets) I’m not a big punk rock style and I’m not a fan of Demi Lovato (not that I’m an anti-fan. I just never took interest) and it feels like Disney tries to make ALL their stars into punk rockers these days, BUT, with that said, I am in mad love with her blue raybans outfit. And the Veronicas, ehh like their music and the Untouched video was really well done. I’m pretty much girly and maybe a bit of a grunge-chic newbie, so that may be the lack of appeal.
With that said, I totally agree with your tidbit at the end, always keep your indivuality!
La Couturier says
Con Brio: I’m so glad I answered (sort of) your question! (:
S.Elisabeth: I do love the star bullets! No worries – I’m not a fan of the punk-rock style, nor am I a Demi Lovato fan (and I definitely agree! All the Disney stars have a similar style!). Untouched is the one song by The Veronicas that I actually like – perhaps it is because of their music video (hellooo, Chanel bangles!). I’m quite girly myself; grunge is just not my thing! (:

I think I might have heard of the Veronicas…once…maybe..I do agree with what you said about their video~ and the clothes you picked out are so cute! Forever21 is my friend..well as long as the manager isn’t there..[I used to work there..hahaha..and I know the manager’s family..lol]. I don’t know if it’s too late, but as always you can find some rocker chic gold in thrift stores/flea markets also ;D Can’t go wrong with that!

Great post again!
I really hadn’t paid attention to The Veronica’s, but I do think Demi Lovato pulls off that rocker look, I spy a Prada bag in the last picture! Tweens are definitely very influenced by her style, which isn’t that bad. Thank god the whole showoff your midriff look (a la Britney era) is over now.

Marta: Merci beaucoup, darling!
Tom Tuttle from Tacoma: My lips are quite pigmented as well, so I always put on a bit of concealer to “erase” my lips!

I don’t really like either styles – too punkish/casual/messy for me I guess – but I love how you responded to it. Especially emphasizing individual style, which is all that matters. And that’s why your blog is the best when it comes to INSPIRATION. Well done, Hun! Bisous! x
La Couturier says
Alize: Agreed (: You and I have that more feminine style; it is much to punk for my taste. But thank you darling! (: bisous, xx

the rocker punk chick look is one of those looks i was always meaning to try but something i think i can’t pull off. im not cool enough :). but i do appreciate it on other people.

I fidn that the Veronica’s style has matured into a much more rock look as of late. You can definitly tell them apart now, with tattoos and hair dye modifications on Jessica. Though I believe all three girls have awesome style that definitly needs to be expressed more in the media.

I really like Demi and her music. I think she’s very talented and all. But I must get this off my chest: someone should just get some sense into her and convince her that black is ok sometimes, but it doesn’t look special or trendy on her if she wears it the ENTIRE time, like she has been since late july of 2009 till now.
I mean, she used to understand this before and she looked better going back and forth with her style like in nov/dec 2008. If anyone gets the chance to meet and talk to her, find a nice way to say it please. I would do it myself but I live in South America 🙁
I mean, I consider myself more classic when it comes to traditional events, so in her place I wouldn’t have gone to Kenielle’s wedding wearing black. If you look at the pictures, the only kind of women besides her who were black for the reception are the older ladies (no offence).
