#NYFW coverage is better now than never, right? (We’re just now getting our first glimpse of warmth—did someone say 50-degree weather after months of some damned polar vortex?!—and timing is everything! Relevance, babes—or so I tell myself.)

It’s safe to say that Cushnie et Ochs is one of my favorite labels of all time; season after season, the designer duo continues to release beautiful collections without fail, and Spring/Summer 2014 was no exception.
I love how inexplicably sexy it is. It’s femininity redefined for the modern woman: laser cuts-outs over lace, strategic slices of skin, slinky yet soft drapery, all done in contemporary fabrics. Slick seemed to be the theme this season; Carly and Michelle always reign the territory of seduction with ladylike ease, but Spring/Summer 2014 seemed to take things one step further.
Apparently the inspiration was derived from straitjackets—hence the straps, sliced cutouts, and binding details that made each piece, well, Cushnie et Ochs. Even despite the source of creativity, it was conceptually more S&M—albeit done with utmost restraint in the best way possible—than insane asylum. Everything was minimalist, sharp, and to the point. Striking, but incredibly wearable paired with a slick, high pony and a side of confidence; there’s no doubt that the Cushnie et Ochs woman is one who’s unafraid of embracing her sensuality, her sacral chakra. She knows she’s beautiful, she knows she owns the room when she walks in (and the label she wears certainly helps, too).
