Besides Chanel, DKNY was the only other Resort 2012 collection that struck a chord with me. It’s a tad tom-boyish for my personal liking, but the presentation and styling were done perfectly—the commercial appeal is undeniably there. It’s timeless but edgy. Designed with the successful, young New Yorker in mind (how considerate to incorporate a palette of black and a few dashes of neutrals here and there), it has the ever-covetable Alexander Wang inspired touches. The end result? An edgier, younger reinterpretation of classics: he sharply tailored cape, the je ne sais quoi pullover and trouser, leopard print, the LBD, the leather jacket. All of which are essentials.
It’s nothing groundbreaking, per se. But again at the risk of sounding repetitive, I can’t help but appreciate the beauty of simplicity. Wearability. Sensibility. Characteristics of a marketable collection with its consumer’s needs and desires in mind. After all, the latest fashions are about developing personal style: adding that edge of something different—something new—all the while seamlessly transitioning into your current wardrobe. Effortlessness is key, darlings!
