Mother Nature’s been more than a bit moody lately (that time of month?), unpredictable in her temperament. More often than not, however, it’s been a cross between relentless rain and torrential downpour, and, more often than not, I’m caught, surprised, umbrella-less and dressed hardly appropriate to defend myself from sloppy, musky, pellets of wetness. This typically happens when I have an insatiable thirst for, specifically, Starbuck’s soy hazelnut latte or desperately need to haul my derrière to some amazing sale.
Do as the Romans do, as they say, but I say do as the Olsens would. Oversized, open-knit sweater, leggings, leather bomber and Hunters for the ultimate survival gear against the Great Mother’s mood swings. For too long I couldn’t quite bring myself to wearing rubber boots, resorting instead for a leather engineer as the closest thing to a weatherproof shoe. But for fear of ruining nice boots, and one too many days spent with sopping socks, I’ve gotten off my high horse and took the plunge.
There’s no deterring me from whatever sale awaits me greedy little paws, m’am. And just so you know—nothing can ever come between me and my Starbucks addiction.

P.S.: Speaking of (imaginary) sales. Found my approximation of the infamous Jimmy Choo for Hunter Wellies at a Lord & Taylor outlet. Croc-embossed Sperry Pelican Topsiders that make me and my wallet perfectly happy.

I enjoy those rubber boots. It’s perfect to wear when piles of snow are outside and on campus all those girls are worried about ruining their boots and I just have to wipe the snow off. I do have to say wear thick socks or your feet might hurt.

Anna: Totally didn’t think I needed those thick socks, but you are SO right! Especially come winter time, I’ll be needing a few good pairs. Any reccos love? x

Love the outfits, and the inspiration, of course. I miss our talks soon, let’s see if we facebook-meet soon 🙂

Pick a day, any day, even those in high summer – it is most likely to be raining in England.
I therefore can’t be parted from my Hunters.
Like you, I obdurately resisted their sensible virtues for many years, before succumbing and discovering that they make winter, April showers, Glastonbury, effortlessly joyful.
I bought the Jimmy Choo crocodile wellingtons – along with a traditional black pair – in January 2010 and, despite much childlike puddle-jumping, they still look like new.

Style Souk: Even your comments are written so lyrically. Have I ever mentioned that I adore you? Wishing you the best from across the Atlantic ! x

love those two photos, makes me crave a leather jacket again. I also gave in this year and bought a pair of rain boots but I found the Hunter ones too heavy for me so I went for a dkny one and I love it! and now I walk in the puddles on purpose lol.

Kimberly Pearl says
@Naghmeh: Which DKNY ones? I had my eyes on a pair by them too, they were super sleek, light, thin. And yes – walking (or, er, jumping) in puddles is TOTALLY necessary. Imperative, even. x

I would definitely be tempted by croco wellies if I had use for them. But I just love croco in general. I like Ashley Olsens’ style the most of the two.
