1. Ikea is still as magical as it was when I was six or seven years old. It’s easily one of my top 10 favorite places (both then and now) even if just for the memories and endless square footage of inspiration. Ikea was the place—is the place—of affordable attainability. No matter where or how big/small the space, Ikea brings possibility. And Swedish meatballs. And amazing desserts.
So. I may or may not have spent seven hours there on Saturday. It was amazing, definitely exhausting, but another trip for the memories. It’s been years since I’ve spent that much time (let alone half a day) with my parents. And you know what? It wasn’t half bad. Granted, I lost my patience at times, but just seeing how much my parents cared about helping me make my first house a home (and how much my dad knew my aesthetic to a T) was really worth butting heads at times. I’m so, so grateful to have them, and though I’m the worst at showing them I’m forever indebted to them for giving me all that I ever needed and more, I hope to return the favor one day. Hey ma, dad—thanks for loving me. Even more thanks for putting up with me.
2. I’m still on about Ikea because Ikea is the shit. Give me minimalist, give me modern, give me Swedish goodness at such great prices. Some of my favorite finds include: rose-tinted glasses and a matching carafe, a glossy white desk I’m using as a kitchen table, this massive wall mirror, and these chrome-and-faux-leather Bernhard chairs.
3. I don’t know how more people don’t know about Deciem. It’s been my go-to skincare haunt as of late; not only do they stock unique brands, but they’re all crazy affordable. The Ordinary (one of the brands stocked by Deciem) is easily the greatest discovery I’ve made yet. Serums are priced at $5.80 to just under $10 (I know), and the best part? They work. I’ll report on specific products at a later date, but for now, I’ll leave you with this nugget. Get the Advanced Retinoid 2%. It has completely revived and transformed my skin overnight back its early 20-something, pre-adulthood phase.
4. Trump won. I’m still ill, and I’m still angry, but after two days surrounded by incredibly company, I’m inspired to do my part in contributing to the conversation and giving back in a way that’s real (and not just me typing behind some screen).
5. Note to self: When they go low, we go high.
. . .
