1. I can and should live with less. It’s easier to want when we live in a world that capitalizes on the feeling of lacking (and comparison, too). Tiny dopamine hits are delivered with every order: the high is guaranteed, but the longevity of satisfaction is never promised.
Contentment takes work, on the other hand—and it’s not to be confused with the commercialized take on minimalism. I love things and always will, but seeing how much I’ve managed to collect (accumulate, even) is hard to swallow. For three weeks, I’ve been living out of a tightly-edited carry-on and what I left behind in Jersey before moving to L.A. It was enough. Possiby just right, even. Remote work helps, of course (repeating entire outfits is easier), and though I found myself wishing I had a certain bag or specific pant, there was immense ease in having less.
There’s good reason why some of the greatest minds believed in a uniform. I’m not sure if I’ll get there anytime soon, but in the meantime: a few good suits have served me just fine.
2. I love New York.
3. I’ll miss New York.
4. I miss the sunshine.
5. I’ll be back in L.A., soon.
. . .
xx
