1. Time seems to have suddenly moved with a newfound élan, as if it’d been squirreling energy away for the very day the sun came out to play again. I understand, of course (sunshine is magic for both outlook and mood) but how can it be the end of June already? Summer was only just beginning and within the blink of an eye, I’d been thrust into the height of the season—as if caught up in some torrid affair.
It’s hot. It’s almost too bright. And it’s as if I’ve somehow forgotten what it feels like to exist in heat. (I’ll be indoors for the foreseeable future.)
2. I can’t recommend the Cara Hotel restaurant enough. It’s tucked away in Los Feliz across from a Marshall’s and next to a shopping center—but the moment you step foot into the foyer, you’re transported to the middle of anywhere but L.A. The service is lovely, the cocktails are delicious, and the Harvest Bowl? Perfect. Portion sizes are generous for California standards, and the ambiance is certainly worth accidentally paying for still instead of asking for tap.
3. Another enthusiastic recommendation: get the Manolo Blahnik Carolynes. I’ve slowly collected a few pairs—70cm for daytime; 90cm for evenings or trousers I’m too lazy to have hemmed—and if I could run a marathon, I would in these. They’re unfathomably comfortable, legitimately walkable, and easily one of the most timeless (and flattering) shoe silhouettes on the market.
4. I just finished rewatching Killing Eve and to this day, it’s one of my favorite shows if just for the costuming. Villanelle is fashion’s favorite villainess, without doubt: she who wears Molly Goddard and Malone Souliers with silky pajamas and smells of power (a custom blend that no doubt has some sandalwood and oud) is one for the ages.
5. This Jacquemus knit set finally made its debut. I’m wearing it again this weekend because I can, and should.
. . .
