1. Three dozen roses later and a handful of envious co-workers later, my cubicle and bedroom have become gorgeous little getaways. It’s a wonderful, decadent thing to literally wake up and smell the roses. I’ve henceforth decided that future discretionary income will include a fresh flowers allowance to beautify my home and lift my mood. White roses and peonies forever.
2. I’ve also discovered a sweet little jazz spot called Bar Next Door, aptly named because it’s right next door to the Italian restaurant La Lanterna. Or rather, my date did the discovering and I did the enjoying, post-surprise. (I can take no credit in this finding; I was merely present for the occasion.) Live jazz, incredible pizza (specifically the Pizza con Pesto e Caprino), and delicious cocktails have readily made this hidden gem a fast favorite…
3. It feels so good to to crack open a fresh book—with utmost care of course; bent spines are not tolerated in my household.
I’ll be honest: I’ve forgotten how good it feels to submerge myself in a book. It’s been that long (shameful, I know) but at least the ice has been broken. Currently on rotation are My Brilliant Friend, The Signature of All Things, and Slouching Towards Bethlehem (again).
4. It’s officially fall. Dark nails and lips, here I come. Mama’s back in business.
5. Clear, PVC pouches are the way of the future. TSA was onto something when they proposed the quart-sized ziplock limitation. My current keepall houses all the essentials (lip balm, oil-blotting sheets, Band-Aids, a travel atomizer, lip gloss, lip liner, hand sanitizer, hair grip, bobby pins, mints, L’Occitane hand cream, and extra business cards) to make finding things and switching from bag to bag a breeze.
After all, transparency is key.
