I’m a bit behind with Fashion Week, I must admit (if only I could attend the shows…even just one or two would make my life complete, to some extent). Fashion is all about moving foward, but when Spring is still months away, and while stores are only stocked with clothing for the fall clothing, I still look to the F/W ’08 collections for inspiration.
I’ve always been a fan of Gucci, my love for the brand starting when my mom gave me her vintage, navy blue Gucci bag three or four years ago. It still remains one of my favorite bags, the iconic logo and luxurious name much talked about in not just the fashion world, but in the everyday world too. (I’ll put up pictures of the bag and matching wallet if you would like). Gucci’s bags may have, to put it lightly, fallen downhill, critics hating the new shapes, especially its bags for the F/W Collection. I can’t say they are completely horrible, but, some are a bit reminiscent of granny’s old tapestry bags. Gucci’s RTW collection, however, was anything but. It was the luxurious hippie meets the rock, biker chic. I must admit it was not one of my favorite collections, but it was still beautiful and iconic in its own way. It was a collection that must be appreciated; Gucci always includes every one of the latest trends in a uniform color palette.
Here are my notes:
-
Luxurious hippie meets rock chic.
-
the runway carpet matched to collection oh so well.
-
as always, Gucci’s clothing revolves around a uniform color palette, that gives the entire collection an organized look that cannot be found in some collections.
-
Colors: black, berries, raspberry, violets, browns. Fall 2008 is all about colors that reflect the fall foliage with pops of purple. Gucci covers all of that.
-
Fabrics: Fall is all about texture, as well as the juxtaposition of luxury and the understated. Chiffon, velvet, tapestry like fabrics, paired with expensive furs and leathers.
-
Beautiful, beautiful ethnic prints. This season is all about the prints! Bold prints on airy chiffon tops are perfect for fall, tucked into a pair of skinny black pants.
-
Speaking of pants…Skinny pants are still in! Definitely go for American Apparel lame or faux leather leggings, paired with knee-high, black boots. Louboutin has this great boot with fringes…if it seems daunting, find a simpler (and more affordable) pair with just a few fringes along the top for that hippie-esque look. Whereas moccasins fit the natural hippie, Gucci uses black leather for a rock edge.
-
GET THE LOOK: I loved the hair. So chic, so natural. If you have naturally wavy hair, simply let your hair air dry. Avoid any products to imitate Gucci’s look; it should look airy and un-done! For straighter hair (mine’s between straight and wavy, a texture I’ve come to appreciate because of how easy it is to style) I’ve got a secret, well, not anymore. I’ve come up with a way to get this look; it works well for me, and hopefully, works for you too! Those with slightly wavier hair should begin to bring their hair up into a regular ponytail (no elastic!) and separate your pony into two sections while your hair is damp, being sure to keep your hair in middle of your head. Twist the two sections together until you reach the end and start to wrap your hair around itself to crate a bun. Keep the bun in place with a loose scrunchy, leave overnight and shake it out in the morning! Those with straighter hair should put a bit of mousse into damp hair. Do the same thing as said above, only, braid your hair. You should end up with natural waves! 🙂 I hope this helps…sorry..I’m not too good at giving instructions.
-
The details were beautiful: fringes, scarves wrapped around the waist, layers of chains, metallic coins on belts, studs…Gucci covered every trend! Layers of chains with pendants makes for an edgy statement necklace. With such jewelry, be sure to keep everything else basic. Wear it with a plain, solid colored dress for the evening. For a day look, keep it clean with an American Apparel tee (gold chains look best with white!), skinny jeans or shiny leggins, and ankle booties.
-
The silouhette was gorgeous. It was always a loose, airy top or layers over skin tight pants. To copy this look, pick shirts or blouses in chiffon like fabrics and balloon sleeves, or, layer sweaters under leather jackets. Tuck them into pants, add a printed scarf around the waist or metallic belt (layer thin belts with studs!)
-
Opaque tights are one of fall’s must haves. Gucci, of course, included them, pairing them with studded ankle booties (simply fab!) and sweater/knit dresses, cinched at the waist with a thin belt or scarf.
