Chère La Couturier,
I completely adore your blog – it’s one of the select few that I check daily – and I equally adore your updates. However, I really enjoy the posts where you reccomend outfits for certain scenarios or ideas… and I was hoping that you could help me with a little dilemma I’ve run into!
On your blog a few months ago, I saw your post about the Guess Maeve boots – naturally, I adored them as much as you did! It took a while, but I finally hunted down a pair in my size and ordered them. They arrived yesterday and they are really comfortable and are really quite easy to walk in. But… as much as I love them, I can’t seem to get an outfit to look right with them! Could you give me some advice or suggestions?
The only things that I can figure out are what doesn’t work (for me, anyway – I have long legs and they do tend to make them look disproportionate to the upper half of my body) so I have come to the conclusions that jeans do not work with the boots and my legs (tucked in or out). I’m at a loss for ideas!
Merci!
Julia
I have never realized how much effort was required in restraining the green-eyed jealousy monster from making an appearance! But fear not, darling, for that particular alter ego of mine (not the lady-like Parisian Coquette) has been fettered elsewhere. She is making quite the racket, still, fussing over a loss at these boots I had first raved about here. I digress, as per usual, but I must mention that if you have the long legs, dearest Julia, flaunt them!
These boots are unbelievably versatile – which is one of the many reasons why I do love them so. However, I did find that these boots look a tad better with skirts (bandage and ruffled minis in particular). Do keep in mind that the outfits below quite easy to change around to incorporate what you already own – have fun and play with those shoes! Substitute denim or tailored shorts in place of the skirts, try skinnies again, tuck in a feminine blouse into a skirt – make it work for you.
. . .
{ensemble no. 1}
BB Dakota knit bandage mini (I’m completely enamored with it) or American Apparel knit bandage pencil skirt | Elizabeth & James light blue button down “school boy” shirt w/ sleeves rolled up slightly | {optional: Elizabeth & James blazer or Forever 21 white denim jacket with sleeves rolled up}
{ensemble no. 2}
BB Dakota knit bandage mini | any tee of your choice tucked in {ex: Elizabeth & James loose grey tee; Kain light pink silk blend tee; Wildfox Couture Red Sparkle Heart tee; E.VIL Lavender Skull Burnout tee etc.}
{ensemble no. 3}
BB Dakota knit bandage mini | any loose tank of your choice tucked in {ex: Kain grey silk blend tank; Splendid white racer back tee; etc.} | Current/Elliott snap denim jacket
{ensemble no. 4}
any ruffled/layered mini dress – florals are best! {ex: Paisley chiffon tiered dress; Poppy chiffon dress; Leopard party dress | leather jacket or denim jacket
{ensemble no. 5}
fitted white (ribbed) tank | cropped little black vest (sequins are lovely!)** or little denim vest | any ruffled/tiered, non-body con skirt {ex: Tiered Floral Skirt; Scratch Print skirt; Tiered Gingham skirt}
** Je suis désolé; I couldn’t find any images of a cropped black vest I had pictured when [virtually] putting this outfit together! **

C’est fin; I do hope this helps darling!
bisous,
La C.
Love all of these combinations…
Cute boots & outfits, La C! 🙂

the advice is spot on, La C! totally agree that boots that are calf-length go well with skirts. good luck with julia and her outfit!

i totally dig ensembles 1 and 4. As in i wish i had these shoes so i could pull of those looks, haha. number 2 and 3 kind of remind me of something Rumi of Fashiontoast would wear!
oh, and i love how you can just put these outfits together within your mind like that. i wonder if i ever think about my things like that…but i have a feeling i don’t have enough items to just revolve my ensembles around one certain thing.
anywho, xx.
michtseng: I do wish I had those shoes too; and 1 & 4 are my favorites too! (: Mmhm, that’s what I was trying to go for! (: Ahh, you read me too well. Which is why I love you.

Style guru!! Fabulous choices!! x
macaron treat: Thank you darling!
Kellie Collis: You’re so sweet (: Merci !
I too would have suggested wearing a dress or skirt with these. You gave some great style choices! My favorite is no. 4. I think alternatively leggings or tights with an oversized shirt or long tunic would work as well, but I can see how she would have trouble combining these with any kind of jeans or trousers. And don’t worry about not finding this boot… I’m sure a variation of it will come out in the near future!
I love looking all those ensembles! They give me so many ideas and that gorgeous bodycon skirt is no long in my size! I’m beating myself for not getting it when it was available! xxoxoxoxo
This is so lovely, love the bandage skirt combination.
Also, I use a nikon d60 which i love with a passion, my boyfriend’s got an olympus e410 which is pretty fancy aswell. Hope that helps! xx
Shin: I’m floored that I’ve inspired you in some way! And I am beating myself too for not purchasing that bandage skirt… ): They no longer have my size either!
Melanie: I’m glad you like the ensemble (: And thank you for the suggestions! I think I’ll look into the Nikon d60!
bisous, xx
the third is my favorite; I would wear that in a heartbeat!
Ooh LC you need those boots ASAP so you can wear these fab outfits you’ve concocted for this girl!
I wish I was young enough to wear these…
i loooove the last ensemble to much – it’s such a different way to wear those pieces together! lurve it!
i couldn’t think of an interesting name so there ;P
i nvr commented but at first i thought you were someone who just strictly into super girly clothes & classic/sophisticated looks but i TOTALLY dig how versatile you are! loved the something chronic post & these outfits. i’d def wear these in a heartbeat!!
can u tell? i’m a fan. (:
anonymous, please: Aw, thank you so much! As much as I love those particular looks, I do have my “phases” of all sorts – so my style is ever evolving! bisous! xx
Cute outfits! I love your choice of dresses.
those boots are beautiful. they look comfy love thick heels! x
Great imaginery combos! I’d love a pair o boot like those, though I don’t think I’ll find that exact pair. Still, about the clothes, you’re so right!

Oh, but do I want those. And in the brown as well!
What a fabulous post!! I love each and every ensemble, especially those fun printed tees. I am definitely putting these shoes on my wish list. I would actually LOVE to find a black blazer similar to the E & J, but less expensive. Do you have any suggestions for great fitting blazers that are long & stylish?
TheBeautyFile: Thank you darling! I do love those boots so much! At the moment, I don’t know of any cheaper blazers similar to the Elizabeth & James ones; perhaps try vintage shopping? bisous, xx!
