Wearing one of favorite dresses—a number I snapped up (via eBay instead of queueing for half a day, because time costs money people) from the elusive Isabel Marant x H&M collection last year—is always an occasion. Not because it bears a ‘Marant’ tag, but because it’s this airy, silk concoction that reads equal parts ladylike (read: #grownwoman, as Beyoncé would say) and man-repelling. Little House on the Prairie is one of first things that come to mind with every wear.
In short, it’s a frock.
And because it’s a frock, you/I have to be in the right state of mind to wear it. A knee-length, non-body con dress with a vintage-inspired print and ruched, puff sleeves isn’t as easy as effortless or, say, an LBD is. It’s not everyday that the general public understands the chic-ness of this cut, and for goodness’ sake, it’s a dress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has been papped wearing: you’ve got to be feeling yourself to do this dress justice. (Forgive the consecutive references to Queen B. Pop culture has seeped its way into my head.)
Adult things call for this dress. Or, well-air-conned places do; silk does not do well when there’s any possibility of rain or sweat, and since I’m allergic to dry cleaners, I choose to optimize the wear conditions.
I’m rambling.
Basically, I like this dress. Laura Ingalls vibe and all.
