Objects of Desire • Soft Sensibilities
Took the ever-elegant Lady Dior on an outing this weekend. To the LACMA we went; it’d been a while since I visited (and at least two years since she’d been out of storage). Key works were still just as I remembered (Picassos and Matisses, namely, and this giant David Hockney of his view commuting to his studio), just rearranged differently since I last saw them. They were no less interesting this second round. If only I were a kid again and could stare at each brushstroke for minutes without being side-eyed—one of the many perks of being a child in wonder. So, I take pictures on my phone now. Wide angles, close-ups, and of course the descriptions printed on the side of each piece—to be zoomed into as often and as long as I’d like. Kept in perpetuity, because I have this urge to collect the things I love (which explains why I rarely leave a museum or gallery empty-handed: I must buy the book that corresponds to the exhibit).
