Wearing…
red lipgloss (Covergirl Wetslicks works so well for that instant glamour sans the over-the-top nature of lipstick; constant application, however, is necessary) // red nail lacquer (Barcelona Red, by Chanel) // an ostentatious cocktail ring // black sweater // patent peep-toe pumps
Inspired…
I love Christina Aguilera; listening to her album, Back to Basics, always puts me in a good mood. Somehow, whether it be through her lyrics or that powerful voice unfound in any other female artist, Back to Basics makes me feel as if unstoppable, glamorous, and fierce. Like I’m at the top of the world.
The aesthetics of the album are incredibly amazing as well. I adore Christina’s look; platinum blonde curls, red lips and nails, a bit of beige shadow and lots of mascara. All paired with form-fitting dresses. She truly is a beauty—a definite style icon for me. Black, silver, and reds are seriously the sexiest and most powerful colors.
How I wish I lived during that time period.
Needing…
Arguably trashy, but seductive and provocative are the words. These Wolford Medaillon Tights, £37.00, are a must-have it my closet. Call it a pair of fetish-ish tights, but imagine it worn under little LBD numbers. Ridiculously provocative. Words do not and cannot express the full extent of the necessity of owning them. Not want, darlings, need.
Chanel Aqualumiere Lip Gloss in Party Red. Everything about that color is perfection at its finest. And the gloss’ tube is quite the aesthetic pleaser itself; red and black are indeed classics.
Wanting…
… this Paul & Joe Sister Mathilde Fringe dress from Net-a-Porter. It is undoubtedly the perfect, mini LBD with a 1920’s twist. Imagining it with a tuxedo blazer of some sort, sleeves pushed up (perhaps my satin trimmed ones!); ankle booties; stacked but thin silver bangles; red lips; red nails; the whole Christina Aguilera shebang.
Loving…
This photo of her is absolutely breathtaking.
…I told you music influences and inspires what I wear.
Bisous,
La C.

Haha, I always check your blog before bed (or during work….)
Love this post. Not many see Christina Aguilera as a style inspiration! I love how different you are from the “typical” blogger (erin wasson, ripped tights, denim cutoffs kinda gal, not that there’s anything wrong with that lol!).
Would love to see outfit posts!! Ik everyone else wants to, too!!!

The little fringe hem of the dress is such an amazingly small detail but it makes it completely covetable.

I’ve never thought of Christina as a fashion icon but now that you post these gorgeous pictures of her I want to browse for more;) She looks so beautiful on those pictures, classic with those red nails and blond hair:)
That Chanel lipgloss has been on my wishlist for ages, I wonder if I could afford it? It’s so expensive xD
Susanna-Cole says
Oh yes, I love the essence of glamour that always exists when red lip stick is worn! I always feel like I look a bit clownish in bright red lipstick though…maybe I should try a slightly darker shade of red. 😉

Hey La C. Great post. I’m a big fan of Christina. She’s got an incredible and powerful voice for one thing. I love her music. She can bring out all sorts of emotions in her music. Then she’s very beautiful and sexy. She’s got great style. You put all of those things together and you’ve got something magical.
La Couturier says
Keith: I completely agree. It’s the reason why I love her so!
SC: A darker shade is lovely too! Give it a go! =]
Anywhere I Lay My Head: It’s about $26 per lip gloss; a lot more than usual drugstore brands. But the Chanel is worth it!
Maja: Thank you! =]
Belle: You’re too sweet; thank you so much!
Bonnie Klyde says
I definately agree: Christina Aguilera is a style icon. I loved her in the Lady Marmalade remake and every video from her Back to Basics alblum. Her vocals have always stood out among other artists. She has staying power in that everything she does has a classic spin on it.
Thanks for the comment darling I shall keep you posted about La Biologie!

I think it’s cool how Christina Aguilera has developed her own retro/glam style and stuck with it. And I love red lipgloss as well, but you are so right about the constant reapplication.

I’m in the hunt for Chanel too…the Paris-Moscow collection, this time. It would be the perfect gift, but unfortunately they don’t ship anywhere near my country:( I should have moved to Paris already…

Christina has an amazing voice! And all of the pictures you posted of her are gorgeous. Definitely a style icon. Those stockings are beyond words. Perfect. I’m in love. And by the way, I bought the Party Red lip gloss about a week ago. It is fabulous! Worth every penny.
Wonderful post as always =]

Laur: You’re the sweetest! Christina Aguilera is one of my top style icons; I love that vixen, 1920s sexy-but-classy style she has!
Molly: I’ve missed you, darling! It’s quite alright. You are a doting daughter ;]. Oh no, your heart has been broken? I will get on that post right away!!
Fashion Herald & CC: I’m debating it, as of now. $40 something dollars + international shipping for a pair of tights… worth it? Or no? I’m leaning towards the former…
Dexter: I need to move to Paris!!
tanya says
this is so unfair! Everywhere I turn, I see the most gorgeous tuxedo blazers and I want them ALL!! I love what you’re craving plus that hot-red lip gloss to top it off–perfection 🙂

i loove this kind of look, so old school glamour, i wish i could be that put together every day
Cafe Fashionista says
I especially love that first picture of Christina – it’s one of my favorite shots of her. I wish I lived during that time, as well. It just seems like a time of elegance, beauty, sophistication, and lots of crimson – crimson lips, crimson nails. Everything about this post is just perfect. I think I may now be in the market for some red lip gloss – love!
La Couturier says
Cafe Fashionista: Thank you =]. Christina really epitomizes old school, classic glamour and sexiness. I adore it. You must get some red lip gloss! It’s a necessity!

Christina is a style icon, a role model, and a talented singer. I’ve always been a fan of
hers since the beggining(which is more
than I can say about a lot of singers that
I used to like).
mayk says
god those tights are gorgeous.
luckily not all the music I listen to influences my style – otherwise I’d be dressing like gangsta boo or la chat * * *
Nina says
wow, i am so drooling over the wolfords. they’re siiiick!
Nonsense Of The Truth says
I really like your style! 😀
Shini says
Oh my, I was such a Aguilera fangirl when I was young, I swear I had every picture of her in my computer 😛 sorta embarassing…I grew out, but I still think I’d follow her around tour now 😛 I like songs from Stripped better though, its more personal… Back to Basics is fabulous in a more stylized way methinks, such great vocals. Don’t really like that she’s trying to do softer songs and poppier image now… Have you heard of her version of ‘Song for You’ with Herbie Hancock? so moody and great.
I think I need those Wolford tights as well, too bad the price is a bit meh.
WendyB says
Constant reapplication of lip color would drive me crazy!
I love that fringe dress.
The Minx says
Those tights are BANANASSS, they are definately an essential in my opinion 🙂 Hope you’re doing well girl!

btw. i am so crushin over that chanel lipgloss – maybe i will buy it for my self after my exams as a treat. lol.
Helen says
oh my I NEED that chanel lipgloss too! I already have the rouge allure lipstick in audace, which is a very bright red, but sometimes you need a gloss. Or I could even wear them together…oh the possibilities.
Mathilde says
love those tights as well… keep considering them but know it’ll just be wasted cash i’ll rip them so quickly!
