So lately, for some unknown reason, I’ve been obsessively craving bread. Perhaps my mother read my mind when she came home with a bag of freshly baked baguettes from the chain-store supermarket five minutes away. I was rather thankful as I broke a piece and tried my hardest not to gobble it down. Oh carbs. I love them. I really do think I should move to France, if it were not for the language barrier. I think I would be quite content with waking up every morning to buy a fresh baguette like Miss Stam; the best part? I would never feel guilty because I would have to walk back and forth, burning off those unwanted calories.
And since the French eat baguettes, and the French are fabulous, it only seems logical to put two and two together and you can infer that baguettes themselves are fabulous. Which is, no doubt, why one of the most iconic fashion houses has a, well, iconic bag dubbed “Le Baguette”. It is like the Chanel 2.55 in its construction, but hardly equal in its popularity. In all honesty, I truly see no appeal in the Baguette, sure, the colors are fun, but 1) the bag would not practical for me on a daily basis 2) it’s nothing too special. Oh well. It’s name does make it somewhat attention-catching, however.
Buying baguettes is such an honorary errand one should take pride in; thus, do take pride in what you wear, even if it is a quick trip to the grocery store to buy a non-authentic French baguette. After all, you never know who you may run into. I call this particular outfit the Jessica-Stam-Baguette-Buying-Incognito outfit. It’s a hybrid between Miss Stam’s ensemble above, and something Ashley Olsen would wear. Perfectly comfortable and needs not an extra ounce of thought when dressing; simple slip in a pair of footed leggings or opaque (emphasis on opaque, darlings) tights. Button up a grandpa cardigan, grab a bag, apply a coat of gloss, and don the paparazzi-proof sunglasses.
The outfit below is one I would be especially happy to own in my closet. Yet another effortless grab-and-run morning ensemble, black and taupe-y beiges make any outfit at least ten times more sophisticated. The wrap cardigan is gorgeous; the three-quarter bell sleeves and fabric is draped exquisitely, perfect for throwing over a lace camisole that has been tucked gently into a pair of black pants. For ultimate comfort, a pair of flat, suede boots dress the tired feet. And lastly, a bag and oversized sunglasses complete the incognito-baguette-shopping look. The taupe Fendi baguette, surprisingly, is actually not as blah as its counterparts; thus, my theory that beige/taupe makes everything and anything look better by “x” amount of times still stands strong.
I think I’ll grab another piece of bread, maintenant!
xoxo,
La C.
ooh I agree! there’s something about buying baguettes that feels so Parisienne chic! I love what you put together with Polyvore too 🙂
I love bread too, especially when its fresh…yum!

I love this look from Jessica Stam. So effortlessly chic.
Oh, love the suede boots!
Yum – with jam and butter or nutella!
I absolutely loved this post! Yes, Paris is fabulous. All that walking, and so one must wear fabulous shoes and carry the perfect bag to function.
Mais moi, j’adore le baguette!

Those outfits that you put together are so ME! Love them!
Great outfits!
I’m in loved with the second outfit. Your outfits are so gorgeous <3
Aren’t you a teaser? Baguette, the first thing that came to my mind was the Fendi!
Can’t wait for your tips for the summer, sweetie! I’ll be waiting!!! =)
Mmm I love walking past the pâtisserie the smell of fresh bread. However, once stepping into the store you then lay your eyes on the mille feuille and other amazing cakes. Suddenly the walking doesn’t pay off :p
Lucky i live on the 4th floor here in France so after climbing the stairs I then believe I deserve the baguette & the cakes i bought 🙂
Beautiful blog! I just love it.
Have a fabulous day
Bisous
I love the outfit. I love the Stam!!

i always love the outfits you put together!! they’re always so perfect!
hahaha you are eternally charming, LaC. But what you say is true: When I was in France last summer, all I did was eat crepes and croissantes, and I actually lost weight! It’s all the walking, I’m sure of it.
And I wouldn’t mind having that first outfit in my closet, your collages are always so inspiring!
Everything in this post is deli-cieux! Especially the baguettes! I could eat one right now, there is nothing better than being in Paris, buying a baguette, taking it home and eating it! I wish I still lived there 😀
what an adorable entry. you have inspired me, i’m going to wear an outfit like the second one with the long taupey beigey cardigan. except mine is blue and has short sleeves.
ahahaha 😀 red adds fun to everything. it’s a little dash of excitement.
i love the second outfit, i want to have that cardigan!!
Oh
How lovely combos! 🙂 I agree & I adore cardis! 🙂 Very trendy.
fabulous post! only you could make baguettes fashionable!
That long cardi looks fab and i love ur substitute for the look :o)
I love carbs as well, in fact I’m a self-confessed carb-o-holic! But the lovely Fendi baguette is so
much more healthy!
And there is nothing crazy when buying multiples of the perfect lipstick(escpecially if its limited edition), its called smart shopping!
anna – yes! finally, another who understands 🙂 my friends were convinced i was crazy for a while. but it is well worth it, i think!
xoxo
adorable post, ma cherie. i love the first outfit to pieces. my favorite thing to wear in winter is an oversized sweater (or sweater dress) and leggings. c’est vraimont jolie! hehe, i am using my little bit of french in your honor, sweet pea, and in honor of baguettes. tho i lived in paris for five months and gained five pounds because of them. somehow the french girl diet didn’t work for me. oh well!
and i can’t wait to read what you write for my tag! yay!
xx
chloe
I just love, love, LOVE your style of writing! Your posts always make my day, especially your little stories illustrated with polyvore sets 🙂
I love that last outfit! I would wear any of those items. 🙂
I love what Jessica’s wearing here. She looks gorgeous and I guess I have a weakness for long and oversized cardigans- they never go out of style.
How fabulous! I love both outfits. I’m more partial to the croissant, personally. 🙂
sugarpumpkin: awww you are soo sweet! thank you! i’m so incredibly flattered 🙂
i.d.: oh more carbs 🙂 i love croissants too, especially fresh out of the oven at a bakery or cafe!
xoxo.
Wheeeeee Paris! 🙂
Won’t it be crazy if we were to meet in Paris one day? I can’t imagine the exponential fun that would be!
I love the post and the great link from one concept to another. Perhaps bags too, are our bread of life in a way, our staple. :p After all, you find the word bag in baguette. And just as bread is called le pain, bags sure bring us a lot of pain when we look at them but can’t have em!
It’s also very nice and timely that I should be eating a sandwich while reading this. How very fitting. 🙂
Bonjour from Singapore,
SEAH :p
Mmm, I love baguettes! My mom bakes the perfect baguettes, and no matter how hard I try I can never replicate them.
That first outfit you put together is just adorable, I might even have to replicate it the next time I go grocery shopping.
Totally love the way she carries that baguettes! She’s so glam…
And I love the last outfit. You’re on my links now, kisses!
Ooh, breads. Now I’m starving!! Way to go for the outfit posts! 😀
Thankyou! and thank you for reading our humble little site. You’ve got a great one going on here. I can’t wait to see more.
I love thoses two looks, I’m definetly going to add that simplicity to my wardrobe.
PS: LOVE your blog, I can’t get enough!
that last outfit is PERFECT – *drool* * * *
Delightful post! Stam does look so chic and I really like that rainbow-hued bag. I’ve been trying to cut back on bread lately, but my mother surprised me with a soft pretzel from a German bakery today…yum!
Hi there-love those sets and I much prefer the beige Fendi baguette to the multicolour one!!
It’s so hard to find an authentic baguette, but worth the effort. I really like the second outfit you chose for “hunting”. Your blog is very funny today, you’re my hero.
I love baguettes! I practically survived on them during my stay in France…it has the best bread in the world! Stam looks really cute in the picture, and I love that Fendi python baguette!
i love the french look so much:)stam looks amazing:)
I hope for you that one day you’ll come to France 😉 and come to Bordeaux it’s a fabulous city and I don’t say it because it’s mine :-))
What lovely outfits you put together! Loved the long cardigan 🙂
Oh man, I don’t usually like bread, but now I want some
(thanks haha)
My guilty pleasure: BREAD. haha…I can’t get enough. How do the French do it?!
love it!
I love both the outfits! It’s so casual but still very pretty. I think I will have to buy more basic clothes like that, dressing in the morning will be so much easier! Thanks for posting this, very awesome!<333
Hugs & Kisses
oh i love this, and you are not the only one addicted to baguette!
wow wow wow she is walking her walk like there are no baguettes under his arm
You are really making me crave baguettes right now….I think I would take an actual baguette over the purse version — it just doesn’t seem too practical…a bit over the top for me!
la c.! i should hope that you would be quite proud of me! today i went out with the lovely boyf for lunch at a little cafe. my outfit? i was inspired by your collages so i wore a long grey cardigan over black stirrup leggings & flats!

mxx
Yum, now you’ve got me craving a baguette!
I also love and appreciate the link to fashion – you combined my two favorite things in life, food and fashion all into one post.
Your use of Polyvore was awesome too La C!

look what you made me do! I’m going out to get a baguette right now. ahahahhas.
That image of Jessica Stam is basically how I imagine my life in ten years time, when I am at my least realistic.
i cannot help but continue carb-ing throughout these holidays….urgh 😛
molly: thanks, love! and you are so incredibly lucky to be able to make these annual trips to french! i am quite jealous – do bring me along! 🙂
allison: thank you, darling!
steph: oops 😉
kay: wouldn’t that be fabulous? to just stroll around & buy fresh baguettes in france. we can all dream!
fashion tidbits: it’s quite alright! i’m a carb addict, so it extends far beyond the holidays!
baguette buying outfits should be highly rated on every girl’s list, VERY important, bread is a staple!
You made me quite hungry for some fresh baked bread! And those bread buying outfits are fantastic!
That look is so beautiful!
Love it! And dear god, I love baguettes and croissants. I live off of croissants, baguettes and french vanilla. You should try madeleines – so yummy when they’re fresh baked in the morning!
i too am obsessed with bread and france.
you should check out “my french life” by vicki archer. it’s just the greatest coffee table book…i haven’t finished it yet but i’m captivated.
oh wow i really love the last look + the bag is wonderful.
