This season, Cushnie et Ochs goes ladylike.
Relative to earlier seasons, of course, although ‘ladylike’ might not be the best word to describe the chance. For a few years now, the Cushnie et Ochs woman has been the Bond woman—indelibly strong and brazenly sexy—but for Spring 2016, she’s turned a corner and revealed a softer side. From femme to feminine, ribcage and ab cut-outs have been swapped for deep, draped V-necks exposing the décolletage instead. Slinky fabrics in pretty pastels glide over the body, but on the rare occasion there’s (gasp!) a chambray or denim dress. Cushnie et Ochs: sweet and casual?
Hardly. It’s done in perfect does so the brand remains true to its designers’ core aesthetic. It’s not all sugar; in fact, the inspiration came from works of the famed painter Kehinde Wiley, renowned for his Baroque-style portraits of black men in street garb. Cushnie and Ochs’ interpretation, albeit loose, is palpable. All things that could be girly, aren’t: there’s still the element of skin, though now edged up with a thick, brassy curb chain. Whether it’s a lariat or zip detail, the hardware toughens each piece up—reminding you exactly where and who this woman is.

I lovedddd Cushnie et Ochs. I love, like you said, even with the pastel colors and more ladylike feel, it’s still very much within the brand’s aesthetic. The silhouettes are still strong, the details still tough.
