Dion Lee just gets it.
Season after season, Lee just brings to the runway ingenuity. The clothes are always wearable—a simple but often forgotten factor when designers strive for Fashion (with a capital ‘F’—and yet, Lee never compromises artistry. Each piece, however simple or complex, is worth a second look: from fabric choice to draping, everything is executed to perfection. Lee’s collections are neither blatantly sexy nor overtly feminine (though I wouldn’t call them androgynous under any circumstances), but there’s uninhibited sensuality in all his clothing.
That said, Spring 2016 must be Lee’s most feminine collection yet. Previous years were edgy, sleep, sharp; this season was just beautiful. Classic even, with elongating silhouettes in a palette of warm neutrals. The architecture was still there—unique layering and textural juxtaposition is his specialty—but the structure was undone, effortlessly.
