This season solidifies the fact that Oscar de la Renta can indeed take ownership of lovely.
The brand lives and breathes the word—Erika Bearman, a.k.a. OscarPRGirl, is living proof—and this season was no different from the rest. What I can say, however, is that I’m loving the shift in the Oscar de la Renta aesthetic (and the woman he’s designing for). Instead of maturing oer the years, ODLR has pulled a Benjamin Button on us—under the influence/inspired by Bearman, but that’s just a personal theory—by getting younger, chicer, and a tad edgier. I’m almost tempted to say that it’s all very Christian Dior, pre- and during Galliano.
But younger, chicer, and a tad edgier hardly means ODLR has strayed from classic tailoring and traditionally feminine pieces. Spring/Summer 2014 was a confection of lovely things: sheaths or three-pieces in demure navy and whites, Dior-inspired and embellished A-line dresses. Pretty and ladylike were the words du jour, with hints of girly frothiness in between to keep the (relatively new) ODLR aesthetic alive.

I have to agree with all that you said. He has definitely refreshed his designs but held onto his vision. Lovely is literally the word that came to my mind when I saw this collection 🙂
