I went to a scent swap hosted by the girls of Nose Candy yesterday, which was held at Murmurs, an intimate gallery and perfect backdrop for such a gathering. To be honest, venturing out for an event like this is rare for me (I’m rather shy and introversion keeps me home unless it’s a work requisite)—but I’d met the podcast’s co-host, Maddie Phinney, at an Andrea Maack cocktail and was thrilled to connect with a fellow perfume lover and writer.
Nerves weren’t necessary, unsurprisingly; the crowd was sweet, the hosts charismatic, and the white elephant swap rather riveting. I was among the last group to be called up to the table which meant the perfumes I’d eyed earlier in the evening (Chloe Narcisse and Kenzo World Intense for bottle design research; Peter Guillame Tonka Bodykon and Etat Libre d’Orange Fils de Dieu for the scent) were already with their new owners.
Everything happens for a reason, however. I ended up with a bottle of Dolly Parton Smoky Mountain—almost spiritually drawn to the faceted butterfly (faux) crystal topper and pale lavender juice—and the 90s mallgirl within couldn’t be happier.
