A list of things I love want, because sometimes, despite how unwarranted and ironic in the season of giving, I enjoy indulging myself in a little harmless fun. I preach smart shopping and all that jazz, but here’s the little asterisk that leads to a footnote: Never have I claimed to be a minimalist, unworldly individual (I am an American after all, with what I prefer to call an immense appreciation for the aesthetics in life…). I’ll be the first to admit I can be a bit of a hedonistic snob (in a dream life); should these lust lists be actual shopping lists, I’d be head over heels in debt. One salvaged only by having one very, very generous sugar daddy by my side. Alas, it is hardly the case. All is well.
Let’s proceed with the greed:
I’m notorious for always knowing exactly what I want (for better or worse). It’s especially handy when shopping: I always have a theme, or, better yet, and entire outfit I want. In either case I rarely stray from the mental moodboard; it prevents any miscellaneous or impulse purchases whilst keeping my wardrobe streamlined. Just how I prefer it. Do try it. It pares down the whole process and makes shopping far more manageable and enjoyable. Think of it as a challenge—never settle, and look for the best possible option. Always.
But I digress. With the onset of actual winter weather—it’s about time!—toasty-roasty and all things cozy are all that occupies my mind when dressing in the morning. (An all black uniform is a given.) Between phases of what I call the “Bond Girl” and a more summer-appropriate, femme fatale’s take on the 70s era is a look where I sometimes like to think I’m some sort of a biker or rock-chic kind of lady (an oxymoron of sorts? Perhaps). In any case, this is my ideal winter armor. Super luxe, über relevant to my mood.
The foundation would consist of a black sweater, black skinny jeans (another given), a Preen mongolian fur coat, and a pair of amaaazing Fiorentini + Baker 7040 boots. It’s rare I fall for a flat boot or shoe and I feel quite unladylike in them, but these are just striking.
Minimal accessories, just as I like. A classic Supra snapback—perhaps unexpected, but let it be an ode to my adoration for all things hip-hop that coincidentally doubles as a en pointe to the Acne SS 2012 meets DSquared2‘s signature take on the young-starlet-in-cognito look. (Also, hats are perfect for those days when my bangs refuse to cooperate.) One piece of jewelry—a dainty, rose gold skull ring. Yet another surprising, slightly edgy, if not altogether gothic element. I adore skull jewelry for a few reasons, one of which is well put by one of my favorite websites:
“The skull was a symbol of melancholy for Shakespeare’s contemporaries”.
Yes please. Plus, this human fascination (read: obsession) with death is interesting. We focus too much on our fear of being forgotten and our fear of the unknown. Skulls serve as my reminder to keep grounded—the beauty of life is to live maintenant.

What a beautiful post– I also dress ladylike most of the time but sometimes I just have those days where I want to bust out the rocker gear…. it feels good to change things up once in a while. Love the skull ring and the boots, and you can’t beat mongolian fur!
