I haven’t been written here in weeks for a number of reasons (school, work, dance are the usual suspects), with the main being that I couldn’t bring myself to blog about anything trivial.
It seems unbelievably superficial and irresponsible—if not compeltely insensitive—to talk about anything else when my iPhone is flooded with AP alerts of one tragedy after the other. It’s not to say horrible things aren’t happening everyday. What makes it worse for me is not only realizing that it takes tragedy to occur for people to band together for a moment of peace and humanity—but to see that it has to happen within the scope of the “western” world (North America, Europe) to generate enough media coverage. Lest we forget; but we do. What of the injustices elsewhere in the world that are ignored? Out of sight, out of mind. Ignorance is bliss. It’s none of my business.
Bullshit.
But I realize this is primarily a fashion (-ish) blog—abel used loosely here—and despite the ugly, we can’t stop living and being and doing and seeking the beauty in our daily lives. Otherwise it’d be a bleak existence of greys and off-sepia tones. Where’s the smile? Call me naive but I’d like to believe that whatever higher being/power/god(s) exist would want us to enjoy this life we’ve been given, and this world we’ve been put in.
Live. Indulge. So long as we’re aware always, and forever open to learning more. It’s not just for Boston or Texas I pray for; it’s for the world.
. . .
