I was lucky to have been invited to preview the Chanel Chance Eau Splendide pop-up at The Grove recently, which, if you’re local or so happen to be visiting L.A., is worth a peek if just to discover the full collection of candied pastel perfumes. I never wore Chanel Chance, admittedly (having jumped straight from Victoria’s Secret Heavenly to Serge Lutens Chergui and Santal Majuscule, before fully committing to the Les Exclusifs line), but I’ve always loved the idea of being a Chance girl… if given the chance. Eau Tendre would have memorialized my teens—tender and petal-y, a perfectly pretty perfume to wear while re-reading ELLE magazine on my bed after school. I would’ve graduated to the original Chance in my twenties: a warm floral sublimated with patchouli, brightened by a kiss of pink pepper to keep its more sophisticated heart youthful.
Chanel Chance Eau Splendide, however, is pure joy. Luminous. Like reliving the best parts of girlhood—bottling up sweet contentment and raspberry-stained fingertips on a Saturday morning.
