It’s somber, the morning after. Sobering, too. So much so that a part of me wanted to spend the day curled up in bed—but the best revenge is living despite, even if in spite, of.
Joy is an act of resistance, I’m told. I’m not there yet (which is why I’ve been quiet on my little corner of the Internet) so for now, keeping busy is my silly way of persisting. And after weeks of radio silence, perhaps a soft re-introduction—by way of a most ordinary outfit—is in order.
Nothing about this ensemble (or the best parts of my wardrobe) is groundbreaking, but clothing is political and style, a personal armor. Reaching for comforting staples felt apropos of the mood.
- RLT Rachel Cardigan, an easy, mid-weight cashmere and wool blend cardigan adorned with the prettiest mother-of-pearl buttons. It’s the perfect sweater to wear with everything any time of the year; I love so much I also own in chocolate.
- Praying Do It Sweatpants, because words have power—and because these are the thickest, most well-made pair of sweats I own. The graphic text is cleverly placed as a half-empty-half-full situation. It either reads “Do Nothing / It Is Impossible” or how I choose to wear (and wield it): “Do It / Nothing Is Impossible.”
- Bottega Veneta Glasses, fitted with blue-light-blocking lenses. Essential after a night of scrolling and day spent glued to a screen—but also because Bottega is one of few (large) fashion houses that have shown solidarity through intentional partnerships.
- L’Orchestre Piano Santal, a fragrance I turn to when I’m craving warmth and comfort. I layer it with everything but today, it was Piano Santal and nothing else. Just warm skin, hot milk, and sandalwood. It’s more sensuous than it sounds, promise.
That’s all for now. Until next time and forever more—buy books (physical copies!). Protect information and keep stories alive.
