This year really has gone by abnormally fast; which is, of course, more the reason why we should take the time to simply sit down and reminisce by way of writing, listing, doodling, or just thinking. So here goes the final post of 2008! Cheers, darlings!
- Starting up La Couturier, who originated on blogger then moved to WordPress (a decision I was iffy about but now have absolutely no regrets about!). Beginning with a number of, oh, zero visits daily, this blog really has opened up worlds for me, introducing me to a number of opportunities that really have allowed me to get one step closer to my dream. I’m done with all sentimentality.
- Getting an internship at Dujour magazine, writing articles for their website covering all things involving fashion. And I’m pretty excited about getting an article published in the print magazine! Definitely a huge accomplishment for me, personally!
- Random things like, say… Staying up until the wee hours of 2 a.m. texting the night away. Do try it! / Sipping hot chocolate while reading a good book / Reading this article – it’s absolutely hilarious! / Finally getting a new pair of earbuds for my iPod / Getting e-mails / seeing Nubby Twiglet’s purse’s contents – not only does she have the most fabulous purses ever (gotta love Miu Miu!) but everything revolves around a color palette of black, red, and white!
- Trips to New York City, my absolute most favorite place in the world. Also where I hope to live one day. It’s also where I bought the bag of my dreams (well, one of them, of course): the Balenciaga motorcycle!
- Receiving quite the number of fabulous packages in the mail, either expected or a surprise! For example: my babies (a.k.a. my favorite shoes in the world), free a la Solestruck! / a lovely loot of makeup from my aunt / orders from Barnes & Nobles / a giveaway loot of nail polish.
- Finding incredible sites that I have been incorporated into my daily routine. iCiNG, by the adorable Gala Darling, JAK & JIL BLOG for the most amazing fashion images ever, & Blog de Mode serves as an inspiration with JustJr’s beautiful and impeccably made collages.
- Forever pining over what I can’t have. The Miu Miu Vitello Lux, the Miu Miu Harlequin bag in black, suede Louboutin booties, the Gucci top handle in white with black embellishments (after seeing the Teen Voguettes, courtesy of J&J!), and the hot pink LV tote from the 2009 Resort Collection. And the Chanel 2.55, of course. Oh, I am one greedy girl. Would God smite me for committing one of the seven deadly sins?
- Going to Paris & London at the end of March. A trip of my dreams, although I would want to back to actually experience the cities without the American tourist company marring its beauty and culture with, well, tourist-y things.
- Waking up Monday mornings and feeling the sudden need to dress up nicely and not succumb do the dreadful morning blues. I think it was because I had watched an old episode of Gossip Girl the evening before and refused to let those girls, though on screen, show me up. It’s my way of letting the world (well, perhaps not the world, per say) know that I do have the potential for dressing up and going beyond the tee-shirt – jean combination. Now if only I had the money to buy the things I pine…
- Rampaging through my mother’s closet for potential vintage scores – I’ve actually found quite a few. This is when I thank God for not giving me a sister. I’d rather not fight for the best piece or vintage Gucci bag. And while I’m expressing gratitude, thank you, mother, for not being selfish about your clothing and bags.
- The fact that there is a different cover for Elle magazine subscribers than the one put on stands. Now I can actually see the image in its true artistic beauty instead of being covered by the incessantly annoying headlines that serve no purpose except to advertise.
- Um, OBAMA WINNING. It’s almost unnecessary for me to express my joy & confidence in him; just the fact that I took the time to make his triumph colorful in the most patriotic manner, by the individual letter, thank you, says quite a lot. Need I mention that Michelle Obama is one of my idols? Intelligent, savvy, admirable, fashionable. The perfect First Lady that every single one of us can look up to for inspiration. Hello, change. Hello, hope. Goodbye Bush. P.S.: I’d definitely suggest reading his two books, particularly his first, since the second is geared a bit towards warming the world about his potential presidential candidacy. He truly is an amazing man; it’s not just his story that should be admired, but his way of mastering words. If only I could possess an ounce of that quality.
I think I’m ready for 2009.
Happy New Year’s Eve!
xoxo,
La C.

Well, it sounds like you’ve had a fulfilling, exciting and interesting 2008 – and I wish you all the same things for 2009.
You’ve also inspired me to look back on last year myself. I tend to look ahead too often, forgetting to be grateful for what has already happened. Thanks for pointing that out!
