… but does tweeting (well in this case, blogging it) jinx things? Let that be the thought of your fabulous Thursday.
I’m relieved, to say the least. No—happy. Maybe even ecstatic if I weren’t in an office sans windows (no sun = no bueno), but I’m almost afraid to push my luck. The polar vortex, also known fondly by East Coasters and meteorologists as the Snowpocalypse of 2014, wasn’t an easy one—and especially not for a perpetual sun worshipper like myself. First sign of sun and warmth and I was all smiles in the morning and out the door with a pep in my step, sans coat.
(Spoiler alert: It was not nearly warm enough to go sans coat.)
It’s finally appropriate to order iced drinks! It’s the season of smoothies! Here’s to itty-bitty bikinis (but first: the workout regimen to get me shimmying confidently into one), to golden complexions, to natural hair, to no makeup days, to Haviannas, to pretty dresses. Am I getting a bit ahead of myself? Probably, but hey—it’s the first day of spring.
Here’s to new beginnings — and a few of my favorite things:
- Maui Babe Browning Lotion. I first wrote about it for a post on recreating Sharon Tate’s look (a.k.a., the ultimate summer babe beauty inspiration). I have yet to use it, but having it sit atop my vanity is making summer feel a little more within reach. Ah, wishful thinking.
- Essie “Bikini So Teeny.” The prettiest baby blue laced with nearly indiscernible shimmer. It’s beautiful on pale or tanned skin, on fingers and toes both.
- YSL “Bleu Majorelle.” The prettiest electric, cobalt blue. I rarely reach for statement colors when it comes to my nails, but this I couldn’t resist. It’s perfect in every which way, and not to mention, one of my favorite colors to boot. I love how jarring it looks with an all-white outfit and paired with a fuchsia lip.
- Levi’s 535 Jeggings. Hate the word, but couldn’t live without the concept. It’s one of few low-rise pairs—not to mention, a light wash, too—in my closet (I’m a purveyor of high-waist styles) and it’s one of my favorites. It oozes effortlessness when paired with nude booties and a smushy, white tee, but works just as beautifully with a patent nude sandal and a breezy white blouse with several buttons undone.
- Monica Vinader. Incidentally I’m not a big jewelry person, but save for a few one-off, handmade pieces, Monica Vinader* is like my spirit animal, if spirit animals were made of metals and gemstones (whatever that means). All I know is that her pieces just speak to me and my aesthetic, and I most certainly plan on investing in more.
