New York City edition.
The soft, squared-off neckline of Gil Rodriguez’s signature crop is utter perfection. Juxtapose a teeny-tiny delicate top with a utilitarian bottom—think baggy denim, oversized trousers, and this maxi sweat-skirt on rotation—and you have yourself a reliable fall uniform.
Studded detailing isn’t what I typically gravitate towards (except on the OG classic Balenciaga city), but for whatever reason, the combination of silver hardware and patchwork leather on Zadig & Voltaire’s latest bag is tickling something (nostalgic) in my brain. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to bring back your Isabel Marant fringe boots and the Chloé Susannas you once stalked for in every department store—this is it. Off-duty, edgy bohemia is making its triumphant return.
I’ve always loved that intersection of loungewear or lingerie and outwear: is it lazy or intentional? Effortless or just plain sloppy? A recent Vaillant Studio splurge resurfaced this exploration of style, and it’s like the algorithms knew and pushed Acne Studios trousers into my feed. Could I effectively achieve the same look with a pair of satin drawstring shorts under a mid-rise pant? Probably, if I were strategic about the layering—but we all know that dealing with extra fabric is never worth the hassle.
No, this is not like the other black, pointy-toe boots in my closet. Might I direct you to the heel and point out that ever-so-soft curvature an inch before heel cap? It’s all in the details, my dear.
I can’t get enough of this Seletti x TOILETPAPER print: I have one of the smaller mirrors and the azalea pink tray, but what I really want now is this full-length mirror. Men in suits shoving red lipsticks around your reflection? The commentary on the patriarchy, (literal) lipstick tax, and societal expectations of women makes this art in my opinion.
The irony of wanting an object I don’t need isn’t lost on me, though. I’m just another cog on the consumerism wheel.
I’ve been on a Pat McGrath saturnalia of a spree lately. I know Supreme feels passé at this point, but this second collab with the beauty brand feels so kitschy, it’s chic.
… or have capitalist consumption and gamified drops really done a number on my brain this time?
