We’re a week into September and I’m left wondering where the time went (seriously, you guys) and why we’re suddenly experiencing 100°F weather. Things aren’t particularly autumnal on the East Coast and I’m the tiniest bit bummed. Where’s my cool breeze? Why am I still shvitz-ing after five minutes outdoors? When can I unearth the sweaters and turtlenecks from the depths of my dresser-drawers?
That said, it seems counterintuitive to be talking about full-length pants when shorts would be more relevant. But let’s be real for a second here: I don’t do shorts. I haven’t for years now, and unless I’m going to be at the beach or at some outdoorsy festival where I know I have zero risk of being attacked by hungry mosquitoes (a rarity), shorts live in the part of my closet designated for all things that I would like to wear in an ideal world, but don’t for whatever reason. Instead, pants—trousers, jeans, and yes, leggings too—are my go-to year-round regardless of weather.
The flare is easily my favorite silhouette. The skinny-leg is versatile, sure, but it’s been played out for a while now. I like the intention needed when planning an outfit with a flare-leg jean: the perfect cut paired with the perfect heel makes for a solid, sophisticated look. It’s a grown-up take on denim (appropriate for a business-casual workplace) that does wonders in adding height and elongating the legs; make it a high-rise and you’ve got yourself a winner.
. . .
