The seasonal “Why don’t you?” installments, the spring 2009 edition, à la Diana Vreeland. The idea for this column is explained in the very first of these series. Do keep in mind that these are all for the sole purposes of enjoyment, imagination, and fun!
- Whip out that credit card, and buy yourself a Valentino gown, without a thought of buyer’s remorse. Put it on a mannequin, display it oh-so-beautifully as if it was in its boutique window in your room. Admire it, love it, an wear it at some gala or an evening party!
- Throw those flannel pajamas and oversized tees away and parade about your home in thigh high socks, a little teddy, and a lovely kimono. Feel fabulous, feel sexy – be a temptress for the day!
- Wear dramatic makeup during the day instead of the night – be different, be bold! Pretend you are makeup artist Pat McGrath and allow yourself to go overboard with winged eyeliner or wild colors.
- Prepare a set of hors d’oeuvres in pretty platters and set them on your coffee table. Snuggle in a cashmere blanket and silk pajamas, and watch Sex & the City for an entire evening.
- Redecorate your room. Go to the nearest home improvements store, buy a bucket of paint, and give your room a face lift. A new color can brighten your mood and change things up a bit.
- Bring a few girlfriends for a dinner date out or for a round of cocktails. Flirt with cute waiters and get their numbers!
- Send a little surprise to a friend, via snail mail.
- Buy a stack of pretty stationary and write letters to those you love. Receiving a handwritten note in the mail is one the most special and surprising gifts – it means so much more than an email at times!
- Spend an entire day at your favorite museum and admire the beauty and significance of each piece.
- Sit outside on your deck, backyard, or a nearby park with your favorite book. Lounge in a pretty maxi dress, a straw hat, oversized sunglasses, and a string of pearls. Pretend you’re Audrey Hepburn for the day and read Pride and Prejudice. Sip a bit of homemade iced tea with a lemon.
- Go thrifting for an entire day – treat it like a treasure hunt for the more precious, unique finds.
- Buy tickets to a Broadway show on a whim. Dress up for it – yes, LBD attire – and enjoy a show in the city.
- Learn a dance from Chicago with your friends – like “All That Jazz” or “Cell Block Tango”. Chairs, fishnet, leotards are necessities. And put on a show!
Bisous,
La C.

LOVE THIS.
It made me feel so happy and free after reading it. Especially after being assigned a shitload of shitty work in the office *sobs*
I like the one about strutting around in robes and being a temptress for the day. It sounds wonderfully liberating. 🙂
Blogtwin love,

Haha, Love this! Spending days at the museum/gallery is always fun…as long as you spend it with someone who appreciates the art too!
Haha. Everything sounds so fun on that list. I can’t wait to be free from exams so that I can do some of those things.
Wonderful list! I love museums, and writing letters too!

Darling La C, let me tell you about how much sexier and better about myself I felt when I stopped sleeping in t-shirts and moved on to cute nighties and kimono robes for lounging.
These are such fun tips, my dear! Thanks for posting 🙂
Lovely list!
And I LOVE the image you used!
Great idea !!!!
Instead of Broadway I did the MET as I was in NYC….. but I was also totally overdressed, so much fun ! ;D
The Valentino one is though, but other ones are so inspiring……. pairing my kimono with my new high socks ? Well, that gives me some serious ideas !
I love this list!!!!
Yes, “Why don’t you…”

I want to do everything! Days needs to be longer! 😉 x
What a cool post! It’s fun even just to imagine some of this stuff. And extra points for the Marie Antoinette image — nothing inspires a gal to look sexy in the boudoir like that giant fan!
I love all your ideas! Don’t know why I haven’t thought of those before! I’m thinking of putting on my pajamas after work and enjoy being in bed watching movies and eating popcorn. Too lazy to make hors d’oeuvres though…:-P. xxoxoxoxoxo
Are you french?
What totally fun ideas!
I like that first coat too, but that’s not me wearing it… she was working the sale and offered to model! And the other girl is her twin, it’s trippy cuz I can’t tell them apart in the photos!

I swear all my flannel PJs were christmas gifts. I don’t actually like them, but I wear them anyways. Who knows why? Guilt? Lack of having a better option?
