I’m still recovering from my two-day trip to D.C./Chevy Chase for work; how is that every time I’m away from home, I end up feeling like I was hit by a bus? I’ve yet to master the art of traveling with grace (I don’t understand how people travel in clothing that isn’t a sweatpant-sweatshirt combo), but let me tell you this: I am the queen of efficient and lightweight packing.
I have proof for both statements. Above, as you’ll see, I’m wearing a onesie. Yes, I wore it to work, no, no one seemed to care, and yes I was comfortable. It’s easily the best piece in my wardrobe: It’s functional, it’s one piece, it’s warm, and it’s food baby-friendly. I can sit as I please! I can eat all the airplane snacks/food cart meals I want! It doesn’t wrinkle! The best part is that I have the option of dressing it up with a pair of simple, single-strapped heels and still be half as comfy. Onesides for the win, and on that note, I’ll have you know that I thoroughly plan on re-wearing this all weekend long.
Judge me as you please.
I do clean up nice when push comes to shove. Though I currently hate 90% of my wardrobe, there’s a solid 10% I can rely on when I need to make a good impression fast. I stuck to the basics for this week’s meetings: a simple, tailored LBD paired with patent nude d’orsay pumps. Minimal jewelry as always—thin (but big!) silver hoops, delicate hammered cuffs, and an array of handmade silver rings—may make me predictable, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
In terms of packing, I had two bags: my work tote (my beloved Macbook Pro—which was essentially dead weight that, without doubt, the source of my current state of achiness— notebook, paperwork, Slouching Towards Bethlehem, training materal, camera, cables, electronics, giant water bottle) and my new 21″ Samsonite. Half my suitcase contained:
- 1.3 L water bottle;
- A lunchbox with a quart of pineapple, 4 golden kiwis, 1 peach;
- 5 bags of matcha green tea;
- Flat iron;
- Toiletries (click to see my skincare regimen);
- Makeup bag;
- PJs;
- Shoes; and
- Zara dress.
Yes, I bring my own water, food, and whenever possible. I like my fresh fruit and my bank account intact, okay?
