Down the runway came an assortment of what must’ve been macaron-inspired suiting: light, springy, and sweet—never saccharine. Tailoring, as expected, was impeccable (if there are two things you invest in from Sander, it’s a pair of wide-leg linen trousers and a grey suit). In wool, with delicate bows and trimmings, the finish is almost couture-like; or, something you’d expect out of 40s and 50s craftsmanship. That level of refinement was a breath of fresh air altogether. In an age where our most beloved designers (Prada, Bottega Veneta, and Versace for example) are trying to capture the ever-elusive cool factor of youth, Jil Sander remains steadfast to its roots and to its constituents. She can still have her fun—peeks of skin through laser-cut trousers, a cropped take on her favorite blazer-skirt combo—and have it look nothing like what we’re seeing on Instagram. There’s a whole world that exists outside of the Internet, too.
