There were a few reasons why I never participated in the trend—the main being that in my twenties, my style largely centered around the male gaze (something I would’ve vehemently denied at the time but is now a glaring fact)—and that logically, peplums just aren’t the most “flattering” on my body type. Get through one recession, start experiencing life with a fully developed frontal lobe, live through the start of a second recession, and suddenly, a peplum top seems like a good idea. Yes, there’s a decent amount of skin involved with this particular top but it’s intentional—meant to balance all the crinkled frou-frou cream and juxtaposed with an oversized pant. Even my scent of evening, Chanel Comète, was specifically chosen to dispel attention. Not a lick of vanilla, rose, or anything distinctively girlish or overtly perceivable but rather, soft aldehydes, heliotrope, and a tender musk. It’s pretty, though reserved. Only women and (very few!) discerning men take to it. All this to say: I’m alive and…
https://kimberlypearl.co/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/thelinebyk-althea-cream-halter-peplum-top.jpg"}
