Things aren’t going so well in my corner of the universe. I’m not fitting into my clothes the way I’d like to; I’m stressed about everything; and I have less than 10 days to get into the best shape of my life (which isn’t happening, I’ve come to terms with). Trivial things, maybe, but we’re not gonna get too deep here just yet. You and I, we’re acquaintances.<\/p>\n

Maybe one day I’ll let you in.<\/p>\n

It’s hard to see the good when you’re stuck.\u00a0It’s hard to get back on your feet, too. But the world can be good if you let it: hate seems to be everywhere, but you’re reminded otherwise\u00a0when a friend reaches out as if she knew you needed someone to talk to. Or, a stranger tells you,\u00a0hey, you dance beautifully<\/em>, and for a moment you’re relieved of self-doubt and self-criticism. Then, there’s the supposed\u00a0lazy intern<\/em> who wrote Melania Trump’s speech, who just might be\u00a0a genius shedding light (i.e.<\/em>: bringing down) the Trump campaign, one plagiarized speech at a time.<\/p>\n

The world can be cruel.\u00a0But if you look up, you’ll see a Pok\u00e9mon. (I’m kidding. Don’t walk and catch ’em all.)<\/p>\n

Look up, darling, and you’ll see the magnificence that is Grand Central Station. I mean,\u00a0humans<\/em> built this train station<\/em> in the imagery of some Old World grandeur for other, normal<\/em> humans. Or, you’ll see the moon: big, white, round,\u00a0golden<\/em>. So bright your mom calls for you to\u00a0look out the window!<\/em> because she knows you’ve had a love affair with the night sky since you learned to read.<\/p>\n

Look up, darling, and you’ll see the faces of the people who love you. You’ll see the smiles of those who adore you, you’ll hear the praises of people who admire you. Look up, and you’ll see that though your body may look like it’s changing, you realize you’ve gotten stronger. There are people who support you (including your Dad, who only just realized that\u00a0“organic” and “vegan” don’t mean the same thing, and is now looking for a\u00e7ai drinks at Costco) and continue to vote for you day after day<\/a>. There are also people who are willing to forgive you when you can’t forgive yourself (like my brother, who tells me it’s okay to slip up; Rome wasn’t built in a day).<\/p>\n

Look up, darling, and you’ll realize that though good things may come to an end, so do the bad things\u2014which means\u00a0it’s the start of a new beginning.<\/p>\n
