1. Two words. Kamala (COMMA-luh) Harris. Let’s go\u2014because when we all vote<\/a>…<\/p>\n

2. Earlier this month, I binged the entirety of Phil Picardi’s “Unholier Than Thou<\/a>” until I caught up to the most recent episode. If you’re not familiar with him, I encourage you to listen. If you are (and you, like me, have long admired his leadership in shifting Teen Vogue<\/em>‘s mission to one that empowered young readers in politics, culture, and identity), I suggest adding it to your to-listen list. Catholicism is used as the springboard for outward exploration and introspection\u2014something many of us (millennials) with a one-God upbringing can relate to\u2014relating to current events.<\/p>\n

3. It’s taking every ounce of willpower to resist the Stoney Clover Lane x Hello Kitty collaboration<\/a>. I don’t know which is contributing more to this fervor: the heightened longing for nostalgia brought on by this pandemic, or if I’m reaching an age where we can’t help but cling to the things we loved in our youth. Whatever it is, Hello Kitty inspires all of those feelings of joy, excitement, childish glee, intense materialism, and a need to fulfill a collector’s high.<\/p>\n

What I’m realizing, though, is that this launch elicited such a visceral reaction because I was forced to love Hello Kitty in secret. I kept the pencil cases, the matching notebooks, the little knick-knacks at home for fear of being called “so Asian” a second time. (I was only in grade school\u2014first grade, I think\u2014but even then I knew it wasn’t a matter-of-fact truth, but a statement meant to be an insult.) Now that it’s “okay” to love this little cartoon character, I can’t help but feel a little bitter that it took over a decade for something so innocuous to shed its label and become… I don’t know, acceptable<\/em>. What I do know is that I’m relieved, too: I have a second lease at indulging in what I was shamed for. Judgmental eyes be damned.<\/p>\n

4. I’m not often blown away by beauty marketing campaigns, but I’m completely enthralled by Tatcha’s Alo Yoga x Animal Crossing collaboration in support of their Rice Wash cleanser<\/a> launch. I have zero interest in video games but for a trip to Tatchaland, I’d consider trying my best to find the elusive Nintendo Switch. It’s just unexpected for the brand and so, so genius.<\/p>\n

5. Took my first salsa class in a\u00a0looong\u00a0<\/em>time last Saturday. (Also worth noting is that this was the first time I’ve danced since the start of quarantine<\/a>. I’m rusty. Awkward, actually\u2014which is proof that all things take practice before they feel good once more.<\/p>\n
