My god, Karla Deras<\/a>\u00a0understands<\/em> women. This sweet little top<\/a>\u2014almost too<\/em> darling, and not to mention utterly singular in silhouette compared to everything else in my closet\u2014has been a favorite for a while now. Turns out, I do<\/em> crave a little romance (in my wardrobe) and can wear something that isn’t a menswear-inspired suit, wrap dress, or tiny-top-baggy-bottoms combo. It’s a sartorial miracle, ladies and gentlemen! I now get the appeal of going girly, and short of ballet flats, have discovered that I’m capable of adopting elements of the appropriated ballerina aesthetic.<\/p>\n

However, none of those thoughts crossed my mind when getting dressed today. The truth is I was bloated\u2014and naturally, this perfectly fluffed bubble peplum was the forgiving solution I needed. A wide boat neck and low back with fitted sleeves elongate my otherwise short-everything frame, and to keep things from veering too treacly for my taste, baggy jeans it was. These are a vintage pair cuffed at the hem for practicality and contrast. For a moment I almost went for my usual Manolos, but black flip-flops felt like the better shoe to help break up all the heaviness around the center of my body.<\/p>\n

In sum, this was a casual look; it’s Friday and we’re in California, after all.<\/p>\n

Not pictured, the McNally’s tote<\/a> I later grabbed because I was in the mood to find a new book for the weekend. Pictured in the background: my latest acquisition, a Halston bean necklace by Elsa Peretti that once housed solid perfume. I’m quite proud of this find; can you tell?
