I hate coats.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Winter jackets, specifically. I love a fitted leather jacket and a classic, camel trench (in the ideal world I\u2019d own one; in real life, they\u2019re really not<\/em> that necessary)\u2014but that\u2019s about as far as any positive emotion I\u2019ll ever harbor towards coats. \u00a0Yes, they keep me warm, but when clothing becomes a hassle, I\u2019d rather not bother at all. They\u2019re annoying. Bulky. Unflattering<\/em>. I\u00a0rather despise anything that makes me look shapeless or just\u2026 poof-y.<\/p>\n

And then things like the latest Holiday 2010 jacket collaboration<\/a>, between Penfield<\/a> and Rag & Bone<\/a>, come along and change my mind altogether. They\u2019re a brilliant team: the classic, outdoor heritage of Penfield combined with Rag & Bone\u2019s edgy, fashion-forward aesthetic make for the perfect balance of, well, the perfect coat. It\u2019s practical: puffy, quilted, and chock full of down feathers to keep you cozy. But it makes puffy chic<\/em>. The silhouette is based on Penfield\u2019s classic Stapleton<\/a> jacket: it\u2019s tailored, the waist nipped in to mimic an hourglass shaped body thus flattering and quite possibly slimming. Le sigh.<\/em><\/p>\n

The sleeves zip off to become a classic puffer vest\u2014another check for versatility and practicality. Aesthetically it\u2019s a bit more utilitarian for my usual liking, but for this I\u2019ll make an exception. Penfield\u2019s heritage look is seen in the charcoal Schoeller wool exterior, snap front pockets, olive corduroy shoulders, and plaid interior. Rag & Bone\u2019s finesse for clean tailoring modernize the coat, producing a final product that is indeed lust worthy for reasons beyond pure want. It\u2019s a need<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the catch. The jacket will retail at $895. It\u2019s steep, the price tag. I suppose if you think of it as buying two in one\u2014a coat and a vest\u2014it\u2019s slightly more justified, but it\u2019s still quite the splurge, and no where within my budget. But if you\u2019re willing to take the plunge (because this jacket truly combines style and practicality with effortlessness!), it\u2019ll hit stores in late November, and will be available at all Rag & Bone<\/a> boutiques in New York City, the flagship in Tokyo, and \u201cfiner boutiques and department stores\u201d like Bergdorf Goodman<\/a>, Barneys<\/a>,\u00a0Saks Fifth Avenue<\/a>, Nordstrom<\/a>, and Intermix<\/a> in the U.S., Tsum<\/a> (Moscow), Hanstyle<\/a> (Seoul).
