I fully and completely understand you. I myself can barely reach the height of 5’3″, sometimes feeling quite jealous of my future-model-friends who stand at 5’10” and above. And you are not alone in the world; plenty of women fall under the petite category.

But there are positives to our lack in the vertical department. We can wear heels of whatever height we choose, never towering our male counterparts (which sometimes can be potentially awkward in date situations). From three inches to a whooping 5.5 inch heel – yes, we can wear them with conviction and still have to stand on our tip-toes to kiss our handsome dates like they do in the movies. And it’s also a lot easier to have clothes tailored to us; our taller girlfriends either have to skip on some fabulous pant or have to find some way to get it extended. We simply shorten the hemline!

So: what to wear when you’re petite?

Heels.

You knew it was coming. It is the only way to attempt at gain some height-age so we may seem somewhat average in that department. But there are rules (as there are with everything else in this world of ours) with ankle boots. They can make us, or break us; those that cut straight across right at the ankles can make our legs seem shorter and thicker. So do avoid those; choose booties that hit a little above the ankle or below it. Or if you really do love those that end exactly at the ankle, pick something fitted, like a shoe that follows the curvatures of your foot as an ankle sock does (use your ankle socks as a guideline!).

<img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2151" class="size-full wp-image-2151" title="NATALIE PORTMAN ON SET IN CENTRAL PARK" src="http://lacouturiernyc.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/natalie-portman-4.jpg?resize=309%2C630" alt="Natalie Portman. Tops that end at your hips are the most flattering on any body shape/size; anything shorter (like crop tops) are for the brave. If you do love the look of longer tops, save them for summer, when you can pair them with micro-miniskirts or shorts. Because tiny bottoms can make your legs longer.
