Suicide was the stipulation for the death of this iconic British designer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Harsh, isn\u2019t it? Those words. The finality of the words\u00a0<em>death<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>dead<\/em>\u00a0that we all sought to avoid, and herein we try to appease our souls with less confined descriptions:\u00a0<em>rest in peace<\/em>,\u00a0<em>left the Earth<\/em>,\u00a0<em>escaped worldliness<\/em>, etc. Our minds, with the knowledge of our own fragility, grow scared at every reminder of our mortality. It\u2019s admittedly pathetic, but nonetheless human.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I know I\u2019m perhaps the last\u00a0to dedicate a tribute of sorts to Alexander McQueen; what exactly do I write about him that could put to justice to the amount of beauty and artistic genius he gave to the world? Alexandra Schulman at\u00a0<em>Vogue<\/em>\u00a0had said, \u201cLee McQueen influenced a whole generation of designers. His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was exactly that\u2014<em><strong>his boundless imagination and lack of inhibition\u2014<\/strong><\/em>that brought his brand to where it is today. Few people possess the ability to do so without recoiling from insecurities or fear of what others would think. On a smaller scale, we shelter a part of ourselves from the brutality of the world, so save our egos and creative bits should our peers scoff at what isn\u2019t in the norm. To be able to forgo any and all insecurities, self- and societal restraints, is a feat to be praised for, especially when displayed for the\u00a0<em>entire world<\/em>\u00a0to see, and ultimately,\u00a0<strong>judge<\/strong>. That, in itself, should be commended.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thus the news of Alexander McQueen\u2019s suicide is especially devastating for any who have heard of the iconic name; in my mind he (and the likes of Karl Lagerfeld) were near immortal: physically as the last man standing, and intangibly as in their influence upon the exclusive fashion world. It almost sheds new light upon past\u00a0designs, which were always brash and impulsive (writing \u201cI am a c*nt into the sleeve of Prince Charles\u2019 suit!). There was an\u00a0<strong>undercurrent of pessimism in his romantically, arch-romantic collections\u2014<\/strong>elements that perhaps reflected his\u00a0<em>inner self<\/em>. His collections were always beautiful in a nonconventional fashion, yet dark.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Choosing the perfect image to accompany my tribute post to Alexander McQueen stopped upon seeing\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/igorandandre.blogspot.com\/2010\/02\/alexander-mcqueen-tribute.html\" target=\"_blank\">Danny Robert\u2019s painting<\/a>. The colors, the brushstrokes, even the face itself reminded me of\u00a0<strong><em>Van Gogh<\/em><\/strong>: the same pessimism\u2014that incomprehensible, otherworldly sadness\u2014and creative ingeniousness captured brilliantly in Robert\u2019s tribute represented the essence this news, and the emotions, almost all\u00a0<em>too<\/em>\u00a0perfectly. The contemplativeness of the eyes that led to the mind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We all cringe at the headlines everywhere:\u00a0<strong>ALEXANDER MCQUEEN, AGE 40 DEAD<\/strong>. Bolded, in the rather unfeeling Times New Roman font\u2014all the more imprinting the finality of his leave.
