I developed a <em>slight<\/em> loathing for it. I refused to be like every other girl and carry a pink bag and wear pink ribbons and come home to a pink bedroom full of frilly things. <strong>I would not, in my grade school protest, resign to commercial dictatorship and become some gossip-loving, fluffy girly-girl<\/strong>. <em>Non<\/em>, monsieur, I adamantly refused!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pink things were since avoided. Pink shirts, pink dresses, pink lipsticks (mauve-y nudes do <em>not<\/em> count as pink!), pink bedding, pink cupcakes. I told myself pink just wasn\u2019t suitable for my complexion <em>(actually true)<\/em>, or my personality. Pink was allowed only for nail polishes, as I (back in the day) kept to more neutral colors. Nail polish <em>was<\/em> is [still!] the one exception. I once made the mistake of wearing a [hot] pink frock to school (that wasn\u2019t bodycon, with white (!) flats) and was gaped at. Not even because I was wearing <em>color<\/em>. \u201c\u2026 You\u2019re. Wearing. Pink?!\u201d From ladies and gents alike. That, my dears, is when you know things are bad, crazy, or just\u2026 bad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was a vulnerable week. So the pink was excused.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I\u2019m warming up to it, though. Step one in overcoming my abhorrence of pink was in embracing pink nail polish (I blame <a href=\"http:\/\/www.essie.com\/products\/\"><strong>Essie\u2019s collections<\/strong><\/a> for making me swoon, one of which being \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/imgres?imgurl=http:\/\/www.makeupandbeautyblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/essie-summer-2010-knockout-pout.jpg&amp;imgrefurl=http:\/\/www.makeupandbeautyblog.com\/product-reviews\/essie-summer-2010-makes-this-booty-want-to-dance\/&amp;usg=__909U\"><strong>Knockout Pout<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d an unabashed hot, hot pink). And though I refuse to believe that blush qualifies as pink, I <em>suppose<\/em> it\u2019s a second step in tolerance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I\u2019ve still got a long ways to go. But it\u2019s a process, like that moon thing with Neil Armstrong. One small step man, one giant leap for mankind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But, you know.
