I even had a figurine of the Nutcracker Prince; he\u00a0lived on my fireplace until Christmas Eve, standing guard in my bedroom as I\u00a0drifted off to sleep in the hopes that he&#8217;d come alive by some stroke of midnight\u00a0magic and whisk me away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I was a practical child, but this was the one fairy tale I believed in.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My girlfriend suggested we see the Pennsylvania Ballet&#8217;s reproduction of\u00a0<em>The Nutcracker\u00a0<\/em>a few weekends ago. It had been years\u2014over a decade, actually\u2014since I last saw this show at Lincoln Center.
