According to Bloodroot, Vegetarians Taste Better

Hold the turkey, but go ham on the vegan mushroom quiche. This New York Times-reviewed “feminist restaurant and bookstore” is easy to miss but hard to forget. How fitting that this little destination called Bloodroot (in Bridgeport, Connecticut) is right at the edge of the water, looking out at rather grey, grim creek—yet inside, it’s anything but. It’s eclectic and warm, covered in cutouts and tearsheets like a journal or scrapbook. Books on the left, restaurant on the right, it’s the physical manifestation of the innermost workings of women who are passionate, smart, and love community. A stream of consciousness, open to all.

At the heart of this place are the two things that inspire a meeting of the minds: food and lit. If ever there was a public space that felt so intimate, as if it understood me, this is it.

And yes, there is a cat.
