It’s finally cooled a bit. Just to a brisk 75°, but the drop is drastic enough for L.A. that, coupled with rain, has the city forewarning our “first winter storm”. As a part-time Jersey girl, I can’t help but giggle. Los Angeles has yet to know bone-chilling cold, but somehow, I’ve become just as sensitive to the dips as those who are native. I’ve even grown to appreciate the overstatements. Hollywood will forever have a flair for theatrics, and at the slightest suggestion of breeze, its constituents will trade flip-flops for platform Uggs. So: Long sleeves it is, along with a belated transition into autumnal textures.
But really, I just needed it to feel fall-ish to bring out this beloved bag of mine. I’ve unintentionally become a bit of a Bottega collector, and of all the ones in my closet, this is certainly the most unique: a bicolor Bottega Veneta Andiamo in burgundy and ice blue intrecciato check, a seasonal release from Matthieu Blazy’s time at the Italian house. (Proof I’ve been besotted with Blazy well before the frenzy following his reign at Chanel.) Peggy Gou was also seen toting this around—which is about all the endorsement a bag lover could need. I adore the basics as much as anyone else, but bags like this are a physical note-to-self to play more. If my clothing is essentially a blank slate, why not wear the checkered bag?

It fits everything I need for a day out of the house, too: spare totes in case I do some spontaneous shopping, my book of the week, notebook of choice, and lip combo (Chanel lip liner always, topped with this SPF gloss). And in honor of autumn’s coming and my darling Andiamo, a Bottega Veneta fragrance seems to be the most fitting finish. Moment After is supple leather—so smooth it’s almost unctuous and suede-like—dipped in vanilla paste. It’s comforting and sensuous and (a descriptor I don’t use lightly), addictive.
