Working Girl

working girl ootd bdg button jeans

No one is above the gratuitous selfie-in-the-loo shot. The things we do for fashion/social media, eh?

Hello, hi, hey. Remember me?

It seems as if I start off every other post lamenting my disconnect with (and, to be honest, complete disinterest in) fashion in general, but I’d be doing my Aries tendencies injustice if I said otherwise. It’s hard to keep up with fashion these days, much less the ever-evolving glossiness of the industry’s blogosphere. Blame the American consumer culture, the social media frenzy, or adolescent insistence on instant gratification amplified only by the good ol’ Internet. Sure, I take part in the tomfoolery from time to time—much to the chagrin of my bank account and shrinking wardrobe space—but isn’t it exhausting? I find that I’m considerably happier when left to unwavering favorites and inspired by those whose style is inimitably theirs and theirs alone; all else is noise to me.

After all, fashion fades. Style is eternal.

Plus, I’ve always been intrigued by fashion stories (histories, analyses, etc.) over trend news. The proof is in the pudding; my personal style hasn’t evolved much—just refined itself—since high school. Nor is it something I find worthy of daily documentation (that too is exhausting!). I wear clothes. They’re sometimes nice, but nice is about as interesting as it gets: I prefer to let them be the backdrop to me.

It’s no wonder, then, that I was surprised when a few readers emailed me to check in (thanks!) and asking for more regular #ootds on ABC and Instagram. Who, me? was the general response, but who am I to say no? I’m the newly-minted Yes-woman after all, so I happily obliged.

Ladies and gents, an #OOTD, or in my world, an #OIWEOD, Outfit I Wear Every Other Day. (I’ll stick with the former; my acronym isn’t nearly as catchy and can easily be mistaken for (a) a catcall, or (b) a pained cry for help.) The highest of skinny jeans and a sheer blouse tucked in; pretty bra not optional. And hoops—of course there had to be hoops! You can’t do a vintage Guess girl look vaguely inspired by the seventies without them now, can you?

.   .   .

wearing: H&M chiffon blouse + BDG Twig high-rise skinny jeans (expect a full thesis to come on the amazingness that is BDG) + The Gap leather booties (similar, similar)

xx

I actually really love that outfit and all of yours to be honest! I most definitely think you should do more of them but only if you like to. It loses all the fun if you feel like you have to 🙂 And I most certainly agree style is eternal!
