Des Pair Books

A quaint little indie opened up in Echo Park last month—and though it’s tiny, the books are expertly curated. It’s a must-visit if just to browse for inspiration before deciding your next read. (I discovered Clarice Lispector’s A Breath of Life through Des Pair, which I’ve now read through twice.) Do grab a tote to stash your haul, no matter how big or small. A good tote is a good tote, after all.

If you’re eager to start flipping through your new finds, walk next door to Glowing Juices, a health food store that offers an impressive menu of fresh-pressed beverages and smoothies. I highly recommend ordering a large “Sensual Vibes” (mango, coconut water, spinach, kale, dates, apple, and chlorella). I promise: it tastes of early summer afternoons, and pairs perfectly with any first chapter.
