1. New York is perfect even as its stickiest, sweatiest, stenchiest self in the height of summer. Admittedly, quick trips foster romanticization but every return has me nostalgic for the city’s energy. It’s incomparable.
2. There was a point in time when I questioned choosing the small Bottega Veneta Jodie over the teen, but after two years this is the bag to do everything in. Spacious (without being ludicrously capacious), resilient, and goes with everything. City-approved and definitely commuter-friendly.
3. The Jenny Holzer exhibit at the Guggenheim was breathtaking. Poetry is protest—and the right words are worth a thousand more.
4. If you’re petite (I’m just under 5′ 3″, for reference), Levi’s 501 90’s (best prices are on SSENSE right now, at time of publication!) are the perfect pair of jeans. There are some size inconsistencies—lighter washes feel roomier, deeper denim are tighter with less give—yet even so: stay true to size for a classic 501 look you don’t have to tailor, or go up one size for a super relaxed, low-slung baggy fit.
5. To be honest, I didn’t care for The Great Gatsby in any of its forms but when previews started making their way onto my FYP, I had a feeling the Broadway show would be extraordinary. And my god, was it: the talent is staggering and the songwriting is emotional. It’s spectacular—worth weaving through Friday night crowds and getting soaked in a flash storm for.
