The Review: Glossier Haloscope

Can we just take a moment to appreciate Glossier’s low-key launch for Haloscope? Just one e-mail; no fuss, no faff, nothing. Digital marketers, take note: less is always more.

The same philosophy applies to products. Easy is what Glossier does best. Every product in their line-up so far embodies simplicity, and the new Haloscope dew-effect highlighters are no different. It’s incredible that no (mainstream) brand has come up with this concept; with a dual-delivery formula that boasts a moisturizing core and an outer halo infused with genuine crystal extracts, Haloscope leaves an “otherworldly sheen that’s never dry, never glittery.” Coconut, Castor Seed, and Sweet Almond Oils combine in a nourishing, antioxidant-rich formula that hydrates skin as pearlescent shimmer provides a radiant finish. It’s skincare plus makeup—which means Haloscope is meant to enhance your bone structure and give your skin a natural, lit-from-within glow.

There are two shades:

  • “Quartz” (said to feature real rose quartz, the quintessential stone of love) delivers a cool, champagne highlight
  • “Topaz” (infused with golden topaz, believed to enhance creativity) is a true gold that gives a healthy, sun-kissed glow

Both are gorgeous. They glide on like a dream and blend seamlessly into the skin. If you’re looking for a natural effect, “Quartz” it probably best suited for light to medium skin tones (with a cool to neutral base), and “Topaz” is ideal for medium to dark skin tones (or as a bronzer for light to medium complexions with a golden or olive undertone).

Here’s the kicker: I’m not a highlighter junkie like the rest of the world seems to be, so for me to have not one, but two of these speaks volumes. Beautiful skincare-makeup hybrids that enhance the complexion are my weakness. I’m also a sucker for the roll-up chubby stick—it’s not sexy, but it’s easy to toss in your bag and apply wherever, whenever. At the moment I’m applying “Quartz” onto my collarbones and shoulders for nights out dancing, but the real reason I jumped on this release was this vision I had for my upcoming vacation. You better believe that the only things I’ll be bringing to Greece (!!) are Haloscope (both shades, of course), my beloved Shu Uemura lash curlers, and waterproof mascara.

That’s. It.
