Happy Halloween!

29 October 2008 • Kimberly • Leave a Comment

Yes, I know it’s not yet Halloween. But the anticipation of the holiday in just a few days is unbearable! Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays sans the excessive amounts of horror/psycho movies playing repetitively on tv and the mischief making. My favorite part (besides the candy, of course), is the bold makeup, crazy accessorizing, and the dressing up. It is the one day where runway looks are wearable, and couture is normal; where no one is crazy, weird, or different, because everything and anything is accepted. Not to mention, we all get the chance to be someone we’re not – an adventure on it’s own.

So….what are you all being for Halloween?

My costume is to be a surprise. So you’ll find out soon!

And for those of you who are still contemplating, too busy to decide, or just indecisive, here are some ideas!

– Be an Anna Wintour, a Nina Garcia, Tim Gunn, or a fashion designer! We all have fashion aspirations; why not be them just for a day? For Anna Wintour, bathe yourself in (faux) furs, don a bob, add black shades, black pumps, and you are the next Ms. Wintour. I was actually considering this.

– Bring The Devil Wears Prada to life. Dress up and act the part of Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, Nigel, or an Emily.

– America’s Next Top Model. Look to past cycles’ photoshoots for inspiration!  Interpret looks of fashion icons, celebrities, Eve, the seven deadly sins, murder scenes, etc. It allows for so much creativity!

– Gossip Girl. It’s pretty much self-explanatory. I was thinking of dressing up as Blair; not just because she was my favorite character. Finding the perfect, Blair-worthy outfit would require much shopping – the perfect excuse to take those extra trips to the mall!

The costume is a rather large part of Halloween; but the makeup is just as important – it’d be safe to say that this is my favorite part of the whole shebang. I love experimenting with colorful or dramatic eye makeup, bold lips, and of course, nail art! Halloween is truly the best time to get away with rather ostentatious nail designs without seeming too immature or tacky, so experiment with colors, rhinestones, and lace! For a more subtle yet still impressive, I love this look: a liquid gold base + black tips. And of course, sync the color palette with winged, liquid eyeliner and gold shadow!

xoxo,

La C.

oooh i was going to go as blair too!
i’m not too sure what to go as though… i’m still thinking blair, but also maybe a 1940s femme fatale. i’m been really wanting to get into a lovely skirt, tights with seams, a hat, gloves, the whole shebang…

or then i thought of maybe marie antoinette. i have a lovely dress that i re-worked in to a marie antoinette circa petits trianons stage, complete with a little garland of daisies… oooh the possibilities!

i love halloween, definitely one of my favourite holidays! everyone loves christmas, but considering that my birthday is the day before, i’m never that excited for it.

I am going to be a Harajuku girl for Halloween (the real ones in Japan, not the westernized Gwen Stefani interptretation).
