“It” Bags of the Moment

28 August 2008 • Kimberly • Leave a Comment

This is quite the shock: I have not yet had a sudden epiphany in regards to the “it” bag of the moment! But no worries, I have a couple to share! =)

I’ve never been a loyal fan of Miu Miu’s bags; it’s always been a bag here, a bag there, that I’ve fallen in love with. Clearly, though, I have an obsession with any of Miu Miu’s bags that are from the “Vitello” line (i.e.: the Vitello Lux). This Vitello shoulder bag in graphite from Ms. Prada’s Fall 2008 line is so gorgeous! I love the drapings and pleats – it’s feminine, soft, and elegant. The large hardware counters the femininity with a bit of edginess. I love the shape and silhouette – simply fabulous! (as for the price tag, not so much. $1,220, Neiman Marcus.)

This Longchamp Legende Handbag in Prune/Noir wouldn’t fit the usual description of an “it” bag – but in my eyes, it fits the requirements! Longchamp has been long known as an iconic, Parisian brand of all things classic and simple, known for its use of leather and for the infamous totes. Usually in browns, I love the use of color in its Fall ’08 collection. The black patent leather handles and bottom juxtaposes the tapestry like fabric of the actual bag: the deep purple, blues, and black is very sophisticated, not at all outrageous or obnoxious. As always, the Longchamp bag is well constructed and roomy, a sure style that would have a long life. The more I write about this bag, the more I want it! I can already picture an outfit for it (another revelation!), perfect for a fall/winter day in the city. Dark wash skinny jeans tucked into black, leather boots, a little lower than the knees (flat, or with a 2-3 inch heel). Black wool trench or pea coat with a contrasting scarf, finished with a berry colored beret/beanie. Very black, i know, but black is classic! (I can live with the price, kinda…$698, pre-order at Longchamp.)

Yes, another Longchamp (lately I’ve been infatuated with the brand). The Rival Tote, shown in black patent leather, is also available in a chocolate-y brown and aubergine (a deep berry, gorg!). I love the shape; its minimalistic yet not boring, totally useable and versatile whether for school, work, or shopping, its roomy (perfect for all that junk I lug around)… In shorter terms, it is one of those ultimate LBBs: the little black bag – classic, iconic, and a must have in every wardrobe. ($845, not too bad…)

To be perfectly honest, I’m not a fan of Marc Jacobs bags, at least, not lately. I think the Stam was the only one I loved; the others seemed like copies of other designer bags or were just…blah. But behold the MARC by Marc Jacobs Dr. Q Groovee Satchel…that’s now 2 bags by MJ that I am in love with (congrats mj!)! It’s roomy (which I love in a bag), versatile, and made out of the softest, most buttery leather ever. Not to mention, the color is gorgeous – “dark portabello” – even the name is delicious! I love it – but I have one problem. It seems a bit like the Miu Miu Vitello Lux I have lusted after since forever…notice the buckles in the front (uber similar), the straps, the color, the handle (scarily similar), the shape…but then again, I just may be over analytical? I do appreciate the pleating though; it adds dimension. I still love this bag anyway; and at only $498 at Saks Fifth Avenue, it’s waaayy less than the Miu Miu I desire. (Perhaps this will be added on the wishlist, for Christmas? ;])

xoxo

P.S.: Vote at the poll! =)
